Dawson\u2019s Creek <\/i>alum Mary-Margaret Humes<\/b><\/a> is remembering her TV son, James Van Der Beek<\/b><\/a>, ahead of Father\u2019s Day 2026,<\/a> just five months after the actor\u2019s tragic death.<\/p>\n

\u201cWishing all of the amazing dads throughout this vast universe a Happy Father\u2019s Day weekend,\u201d Humes, 72, wrote via Instagram<\/span><\/a> on Saturday, June 19, sharing a throwback Dawson\u2019s <\/i>poster with Van Der Beek and John Wesley Shipp<\/b>. \u201cMy advice? Give big meaningful hugs and tell them you love them \u2026 a shout-out to simpler times with @vanderjames @johnwesleyshippjr.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sharing the upload to her Stories, Humes added \u201cTV family\u201d and \u201cForever friends\u201d hashtags.<\/p>\n

Humes and Shipp, 71, played the parents of Dawson (Van Der Beek) on Dawson\u2019s Creek<\/i>, which ran for six seasons from 1998 to 2003.<\/p>\n

He met his final days with courage, faith, and grace,\u201d James\u2019 wife, Kimberly Van Der Beek, wrote via Instagram in February 2026. \u201cThere is much [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The Dawson\u2019s <\/i>cast lost one of their own in February when Van Der Beek died<\/span><\/a> following a battle stage III colorectal cancer. He was 48.<\/p>\n

\u201cRarely am I at a loss for words \u2026 today would be the exception. James, my gracious warrior, you fought a hard battle against all odds with such quiet strength and dignity,\u201d Humes wrote via Instagram<\/span><\/a> at the time, mourning Van Der Beek\u2019s death. \u201cI will always love and admire you for that. Our last conversations, merely a few days ago, are forever sitting softly in my heart for safe keeping.\u201d<\/p>\n

She continued, \u201cTo our extended Dawson\u2019s Creek<\/i> family of friends \u2026 please be respectful of our silences at the moment as Beautiful Kimberly and family have asked for peaceful privacy for now.\u201d<\/p>\n

James is survived by his wife, Kimberly Van Der Beek<\/b>, and their six children.<\/p>\n

\u201cYesterday was three months since we lost @vanderjames. To say I\u2019m heartbroken is a severe understatement,\u201d Kimberly, 44, wrote via Instagram last month<\/span><\/a>. \u201cWords just don\u2019t capture what grief is. The comforts of shock have worn off.\u00a0 The reality is settling in \u2026 and I miss him. We all miss him. Yet, there is a different kind of magic in the air. I feel him. I know him more deeply.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kimberly further thanked her and James\u2019 loved ones for their support after the difficult time.<\/p>\n
