She&#8217;s constantly interrupted and mansplained by her councillors on Dragonstone; she&#8217;s <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/mashable.com\/article\/house-of-the-dragon-finale-ser-simon-strong-rhaenyra\" target=\"_blank\" data-ga-click=\"1\" data-ga-label=\"$text\" data-ga-item=\"text-link\" data-ga-module=\"content_body\">competed with her husband Daemon<\/a> for influence (<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/mashable.com\/article\/house-of-the-dragon-season-2-finale-daemon-vision-daenerys\" target=\"_blank\" data-ga-click=\"1\" data-ga-label=\"$text\" data-ga-item=\"text-link\" data-ga-module=\"content_body\">he&#8217;s all good now<\/a>); and she has had just about enough of this sexist shit.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;For two seasons we&#8217;ve seen Rhaenyra restrained from action, often by her male council,&#8221; D&#8217;Arcy tells Mashable. &#8220;And at the start of Season 3, there&#8217;s finally huge momentum in her campaign, and she is poised to move into action. That momentum hits a very sudden brick wall \u2014 or locked door.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Without spoiling anything, this locked door, though noble in intention, represents the ultimate male defiance for Rhaenyra in the opening episode. In utter frustration within her prison, the queen (who is dressed in her riding leathers, ready for battle) seizes her court gown \u2014 another elaborate masterpiece from <em>House of the Dragon<\/em> costume designer Caroline McCall \u2014 and tears it to pieces. However, it&#8217;s the second half that truly hits home for the usurped queen, who finds herself yet again undermined by a man, even in a moment of heroism.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Rhaenyra has become very familiar with the ways in which patriarchy looks to consolidate male power, and there&#8217;s something interesting going on here, where something that&#8217;s framed as protection or care is actually an arm of control.
