Penn Badgley<\/strong><\/a>\u2018s wife, Domino Kirke<\/strong>, poked fun at the reality of marriage with a divorce joke in her Father\u2019s Day tribute.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you grow up with a childlike father, you learn not to expect much. You brace yourself for disappointment over and over,\u201d Kirke, 42, captioned an Instagram post on Sunday, June 21. \u201cYou make excuses for their behavior and convince yourself you don\u2019t deserve much more.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kirke, who welcomed son Cassius, 16, in a previous relationship, recalled finding it \u201ceasier\u201d to \u201cparent alone\u201d before she met Badgley, 39.<\/p>\n

\u201cTruth is, I felt like I had more \u2018control\u2019 as a single mum,\u201d she wrote. \u201cThat\u2019s all that was. I needed to run the show and keep everything where I could see it. I know now that control is an illusion. Even on the days I think I can do this better alone, even with all that muscle memory to back it up, I know now in my bones that I can\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n

While reflecting on their lives as a family of six, Kirke publicly praised Badgley as a dad. \u201cSure, twins. Sure, we\u2019re finally outnumbered,\u201d she added. \u201cBut it\u2019s more than that. Time takes time, and 13 yrs later, I realize we\u2019ve always had a child in tow. Always a child in our bed, even one that wasn\u2019t your own.\u201d<\/p>\n

She continued: \u201c\u2018Four kids! You wanna know what it\u2019s like to have a fourth? Just imagine you\u2019re drowning, and someone hands you a baby.\u2019 ~ Jim Gaffigan. The couple, who got married in 2017, are also parents to son James, 4, and 9-month-old twin boys<\/a>. Before expanding their family, Kirke gushed about how Badgley took over the role of stepdad to her eldest son.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s a really good stepdad,\u201d Kirke exclusively told Us Weekly in 2019 of Badgley. \u201cHe doesn\u2019t have to be \u2018dad,\u2019 so he can have more fun with him. It\u2019s really nice. The stepparent thing is definitely uncharted territory for me \u2019cause I didn\u2019t grow up with one, but \u2026 he takes care of him really well.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kirke spoke to Us<\/em> about watching Cassius grow into his own, saying, \u201cBoys at 10 have the same amount of testosterone as they will have when they\u2019re 18, so there\u2019s a sass, but when I speak to him on the phone, he\u2019ll be like, \u2018Hey mom, you sound tired. You should go to bed.\u2019 And I\u2019m like, \u2018Yeah, OK, thanks.\u2019 Like, \u2018Whoa, who am I talking to?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
