The Royal Family<\/a><\/strong>\u2019s public support has dropped to its lowest level in over three decades of polling. The support for the monarchy now stands at just 55 percent of the public. That is an 11 percent decrease since 2023.<\/p>\n According to an Ipsos poll<\/a> carried out in March 2026 among 1,062 British adults, 55 percent remain in favour of the monarchy. However, the polling stated, \u201cWhile monarchists outnumber republicans 2:1, this is the lowest level of support Ipsos has recorded for the monarchy since the series began in 1993 (the previous low was 60% in 2021).<\/p>\n In 1993, the Royal Family\u2019s approval rating was 69 percent, following Queen Elizabeth II\u2019s \u201cannus horribilis\u201d that saw the Windsor Castle fire and three royal marriages end, reports the Daily Mail.<\/a><\/p>\n As per the new polling, younger people are driving the change, with only 33 percent aged 18\u201334 supporting the monarchy, and 45 percent favouring a republic. It states, \u201cOlder people remain staunchly monarchist, with 74 percent of those aged 55-plus supporting a monarchy, just 14 percent a republic.\u201d<\/p>\n The findings come weeks after Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, who was stripped of his titles last year over his ties to Jeffrey Epstein, was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office, reports the Mirror.<\/a> He was arrested in February 2026. It marked the first time the former prince was arrested over his links to the sex offender, but he was soon released. Mountbatten-Windsor denies all allegations.<\/p>\n The polling organization said its methodology changed in June 2025, so comparisons with earlier data should be treated carefully. Gideon Skinner, senior director of UK political research at Ipsos, said the organization\u2019s latest research on public attitudes to the monarchy shows an ongoing trend that the Royal Family \u201cshould not ignore.\u201d<\/p>\n Skinner noted that while a majority of the country remains pro-monarchy and outnumbers republicans by two to one, support for the institution is at its lowest level in 33 years.
