You can pre-order\/pre-save it <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/editors.lnk.to\/surface-echo-sound\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Surface, Echo &amp; Sound\u2019 will feature Tom Smith and co\u2019s previous single <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/editors-share-reflective-new-single-call-it-in-and-announce-2027-uk-and-european-tour-with-opening-of-new-birmingham-venue-3942941\">\u2018Call It In\u2019<\/a>, which they shared in April alongside news of <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/editors-share-reflective-new-single-call-it-in-and-announce-2027-uk-and-european-tour-with-opening-of-new-birmingham-venue-3942941\">a UK and European tour for 2027<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>For their upcoming new LP, Editors adopted a more organic approach to creating music after reuniting last summer. This harked back to their earliest days in a practice room in Stafford, when they worked through songs together.<\/p>\n<p>Their recent albums had been written and recorded as in-the-studio projects. For \u2018Surface, Echo &amp; Sound\u2019, frontman Smith took a stripped-back, acoustic-based approach \u2013 similar to the process on his debut solo album, 2025\u2019s <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/editors-tom-smith-announces-debut-solo-album-with-dreamlike-hopeful-single-life-is-for-living-3884837\">\u2018There Is Nothing In The Dark\u2026\u2019<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"jeg_video_container jeg_video_content\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Editors - The Rush (Official Video)\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/JYJ5ne7Ekfg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>He brought a selection of songs to the band for them to play together, trying different things out, and seeing where this led them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a very productive summer,\u201d recalled Smith of creating the record. \u201cThe sun was out for the most part, we were in greenest Gloucestershire, not far from where I live, on this innocuous little industrial estate \u2013 it was pretty much the opposite of being in Berghain!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>New single \u2018The Rush\u2019 is described by the frontman as an imagined bar scene featuring two people talking about life, while drinking and thinking about all the ups and downs they\u2019ve faced over the years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat idea of finding comfort in people close to me, friends and loved ones and family, is a theme that comes up all the time,\u201d he went on. \u201cIt\u2019s a theme that is in everything to a degree.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The track finds Smith on mandolin, with the instrument bringing a more organic core to \u2018Surface, Echo &amp; Sound\u2019.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media\" data-instgrm-captioned=\"\" data-instgrm-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DZ7C6CyiA00\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=loading\" data-instgrm-version=\"14\" style=\" background:#FFF; border:0; border-radius:3px; box-shadow:0 0 1px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.5),0 1px 10px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.15); margin: 1px; max-width:658px; min-width:326px; padding:0; width:99.375%; width:-webkit-calc(100% - 2px); width:calc(100% - 2px);\">\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not used in a folky kind of way, but it brings a warm element that can spike through anything in the mix,\u201d explained guitarist Justin Lockey, who also recorded and produced the album.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a texture, it\u2019s definitely a big character on this record. A lot of the rhythms come from the mandolin and the acoustic as much as they do from the drums.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2018The Rush\u2019 is accompanied by an official video, shot in Tokyo.
