The second ransom note originally sent in the Nancy Guthrie<\/strong> case allegedly stated that the missing family matriarch was \u201cburied in nature\u201d following her supposed death, reporter Briana Whitney<\/strong> tells Us Weekly<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Speaking exclusively to Us<\/em> on Tuesday, June 23, Whitney, a former Arizona\u2019s Family TV reporter, reflected on reading the disturbing note while covering the 84-year-old\u2019s disappearance<\/a> in February.<\/p>\n

Whitney\u2019s role at Arizona\u2019s Family TV involved covering the Nancy Guthrie case for several months. \u201cI\u2019ve seen them with my own eyes, so I want to actually provide more context as to what that second note said,\u201d she told Us<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the [second] note it says she\u2019s \u2018buried in nature\u2019 and that\u2019s what I read,\u201d she shared, adding that she found it \u201cinteresting they used that specific phrasing and also referred to the fact that she [Nancy] \u2018perished\u2019 shortly after she was taken.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tA new report offers insight into the ransom notes received by police amid Nancy Guthrie\u2019s disappearance \u2014 and an apparent major mistake made by investigators. Air Mail published an in-depth look at the disappearance of Today anchor Savannah Guthrie\u2019s 84-year-old mom on Saturday, June 20. Two sources close to the investigation claimed that investigators first [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Whitney, who joined the \u201cCrime Junkie\u201d podcast in May, spoke to Us<\/em> just hours after multiple outlets reported that the second ransom note<\/a>, believed to have been sent by Nancy\u2019s abductors, acknowledged that her apparent death was \u201cunintentional\u201d and that she was \u201cburied with nature now.\u201d<\/p>\n

News of the ransom notes<\/a> originally broke in February after they were sent to multiple media outlets, however the contents of each note were not publicly revealed in full at the time.<\/p>\n

The notes were sent to outlets in the week that followed Nancy\u2019s February 1 reported disappearance. Nancy, who is Today<\/em> host Savannah Guthrie<\/strong>\u2019s mother, was last seen alive when she was dropped off at her home by her son-in-law, Tommaso Cioni<\/strong>, on the night of January 31. She was reported missing the following day after a friend alerted the Guthrie family that Nancy did not turn up as planned for a virtual worship service.<\/p>\n

After reviewing both the first and second ransom notes herself, Whitney told Us<\/em> that the second note\u2019s \u201cverbiage\u201d seemed unusual to her. \u201cI thought it was interesting that the term \u2018we\u2019 was used, and that it could be somebody trying to fool people that it\u2019s more than one person,\u201d the journalist told Us<\/em>. \u201cBut that\u2019s how it was written. It [was] kind of offbeat and odd \u2026 not a way that we would typically write something. That stuck out.\u201d<\/p>\n

Whitney added that the second note mentioned that nobody could have done anything to have \u201cchanged the outcome,\u201d and that the note\u2019s writer, or writers, stated that they were \u201ctruly\u201d sorry.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat stood out to me because it seemed so final. It almost felt like that was the end of it all, and even though we know that it continues to unfold, and \u2026 everything kept going on, especially in that heightened sense of that first month, the investigation was ongoing,\u201d Whitney told Us<\/em>. \u201cReally, when it comes to anything more from whoever potentially did this, it felt like it all ended after that second note.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tOne of the reported demands for Nancy Guthrie\u2019s safe return has been revealed. The person or people who allegedly took Today cohost Savannah Guthrie\u2019s mom, 84, have asked for the family to pay them millions of dollars in bitcoin, according to a local news station who reportedly received one of the ransom notes that were [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Whitney also said that she believed Nancy\u2019s abductors may not have expected that Nancy would die. \u201cIf you look at the notes, and especially the way that the second note was written, and we know that there was Bitcoin demanded in the first one from reading the notes, you can look at this and theorize that they didn\u2019t expect Nancy Guthrie to pass away, or that her death was not planned,\u201d she told Us<\/em>. \u201cSo there was no proof of life to be had to prove to the Guthrie family that they had Nancy to then pay the money.\u201d (AirMail<\/em> reported on June 20 that a first random note was sent to investigators one day after Nancy\u2019s disappearance and asked for $4 million to be paid into a Bitcoin account \u201cor else.\u201d)<\/p>\n

Whitney noted, \u201cWe know that there was one Bitcoin transaction, a very low amount in the Bitcoin wallet [as] seemingly testing to see if they could communicate with whoever this person is, but that didn\u2019t seem to come to fruition. When there was no proof of life ever given of Nancy, it feels that the second note was kind of like, \u2018Well, we didn\u2019t plan for this to happen, and you couldn\u2019t do anything, and this is it, and we\u2019re sorry.\u2019 I think that\u2019s where the financial part of this ended.\u201d<\/p>\n
