Becky Hill<\/a> has responded after being booed during a surprise set of new music at TRNSMT Festival<\/a>, saying she is \u201cnot a jukebox\u201d.<\/p>\n The singer played a 30-minute set on the King Tut\u2019s Stage at Glasgow Green on Friday (June 19), where she told fans she was using the slot to introduce \u201ca\u00a0brand new\u00a0fucking era\u201d.<\/p>\n Some fans booed after Hill told them: \u201cI\u2019m going to play you nothing but brand new music. I\u2019ve got to a point that\u2019s in every artist\u2019s life where we have to let go of the tunes you lot know me for, and introduce you lot to a brand new fucking era.\u201d<\/p>\n After the reaction from the crowd, Hill replied: \u201cIt\u2019s alright, you\u2019ve got plenty of other artists to see here.\u201d<\/p>\n She has now responded to the reaction in a video posted to Instagram, in which she explained the situation from her point of view.\u00a0\u201cI wanted to bring a new and exclusive 30-minute set of\u00a0brand new\u00a0music to the festival crowd, unannounced\u201d she said. \u201cAnd I thought it would be a great opportunity to play the new music I\u2019ve been working\u00a0so hard\u00a0on, and I personally love so much.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019d\u00a0firstly like to thank the team behind TRNSMT for giving me that stage,\u00a0and also\u00a0the crowd of people who you\u00a0probably wouldn\u2019t\u00a0have seen online who stayed and danced with me right until the very end.\u201d<\/p>\n At the end of the set, she did play \u2018Afterglow\u2019,\u00a0her 2013 collaboration with\u00a0Wilkinson<\/a>, and her 2023\u00a0Chase\u00a0& Status<\/a>\u00a0collab\u00a0\u2018Disconnect\u2019.<\/p>\n \u201cIt was amazing to have such a captive audience who wanted to hear the new stuff too. I said on stage how difficult it is to transition into a new single and\u00a0new music\u00a0and new albums, and all this conversation online is exactly what I meant,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m not a jukebox, I\u2019m an artist, and the tickets for TRNSMT weren\u2019t sold on my name being a part of the line-up. And I wanted to do something new and artistically-driven. I don\u2019t really get that opportunity to do that in my career often at all. But trust me, when my name is on the poster, I\u2019ll always sing the tunes that people know and love. I feel very grateful to have those records in my catalogue after 14 years of making them.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cBut for me to be able to have a long career, I need to have new music,\u201d she added, before thanking the fans who were at the show and urging people not to believe everything they read online.<\/p>\n\n<\/blockquote>\n
