\nLowther-Pinkerton said both brothers were committed soldiers who
\nwanted to serve alongside their fellow servicemen and women.<\/p>\n\u201cWhen they were soldiers, it was important that they did it
\nright and properly,\u201d he said, explaining that he wanted both
\nprinces to earn genuine military experience rather than receive
\nspecial treatment.<\/p>\n
He described William and Harry as \u201cbrave guys\u201d and said his aim
\nwas to ensure they could one day say they had fulfilled their
\nduty.<\/p>\n
The revelation echoes comments William himself made in 2010,
\nwhen he admitted it was \u201ca pity\u201d he had not been allowed to deploy
\nto Afghanistan while serving with the Army.<\/p>\n
At the time, the Prince acknowledged there were legitimate
\nsecurity concerns but suggested some objections had been
\noverstated.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere are some slightly valid arguments as to why not,\u201d he
\nsaid, \u201cbut many of them are hyped up as to why I couldn\u2019t go.\u201d<\/p>\n
William had originally served with the Household Cavalry before
\ntransferring to the Royal Air Force, where he qualified as a search
\nand rescue helicopter pilot. Although some members of his former
\nregiment were deployed to Afghanistan, he remained in the UK.<\/p>\n
Lowther-Pinkerton, who worked for the brothers between 2005 and
\n2013 before continuing in a part-time role for another year, also
\nreflected on the ongoing rift between William and Harry.<\/p>\n
Asked whether he believed the brothers could repair their
\nrelationship, he declined to comment directly on the dispute.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think I\u2019d better steer clear of that Harry issue,\u201d he
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
However, he added that he remained \u201cvery fond\u201d of the Duke of
\nSussex and described himself as \u201ca perennial optimist\u201d, suggesting
\nhe still hoped reconciliation could eventually happen.<\/p>\n
The relationship between the brothers has remained strained
\nsince the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped back from royal duties
\nin 2020. Tensions have since deepened following the couple\u2019s
\ninterview with Oprah Winfrey, their Netflix documentary series and
\nHarry\u2019s memoir, Spare<\/em>.<\/p>\nHarry said last year that he wanted to rebuild ties with his
\nfamily, telling the BBC: \u201cI would love reconciliation with my
\nfamily. There\u2019s no point in continuing to fight anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are expected to return to Britain
\ntogether next month with their children, Prince Archie and Princess
\nLilibet, for events marking one year until the Birmingham Invictus
\nGames. Reports have suggested King Charles has offered the family
\naccommodation on a royal estate, although it is understood no
\nresponse has yet been received.<\/p>\n
