{"id":2474967,"date":"2026-06-25T11:01:13","date_gmt":"2026-06-25T11:01:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/?p=2474967"},"modified":"2026-06-25T11:01:13","modified_gmt":"2026-06-25T11:01:13","slug":"former-royal-aide-reveals-the-heartbreaking-reason-prince-william-was-never-allowed-to-follow-harry-into-afghanistan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/former-royal-aide-reveals-the-heartbreaking-reason-prince-william-was-never-allowed-to-follow-harry-into-afghanistan\/","title":{"rendered":"Former royal aide reveals the heartbreaking reason Prince William was never allowed to follow Harry into Afghanistan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Prince William was repeatedly prevented from serving on the<br \/>\nfront line in Afghanistan despite determined efforts to secure his<br \/>\ndeployment, according to a former senior royal aide.<\/p>\n<p>Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton, who served as principal private<br \/>\nsecretary to both the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Sussex,<br \/>\n<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gbnews.com\/royal\/royal-aide-prince-william-blocked-afghanistan-prince-harry\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">has disclosed that he fought<br \/>\nunsuccessfully<\/a> to allow William to follow his younger brother<br \/>\ninto the war zone.<\/p>\n<p>The former SAS officer, who oversaw much of the princes\u2019 early<br \/>\nmilitary careers, said security officials consistently ruled out<br \/>\nthe future King\u2019s deployment because of the risks involved.<\/p>\n<p>Prince Harry completed two tours of duty in Afghanistan during<br \/>\nhis Army career, although his first deployment in 2008 was cut<br \/>\nshort after details of his presence were leaked, raising concerns<br \/>\nthat his location had become known to Taliban forces.<\/p>\n<p>William, however, was never granted permission to undertake a<br \/>\nsimilar operational deployment.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.com\/life-style\/celebrity\/article\/kate-william-harry-confidant-interview-nldwqm25v\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Speaking to <em>The Times<\/em>,<\/a><br \/>\nLowther-Pinkerton said both brothers were committed soldiers who<br \/>\nwanted to serve alongside their fellow servicemen and women.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen they were soldiers, it was important that they did it<br \/>\nright and properly,\u201d he said, explaining that he wanted both<br \/>\nprinces to earn genuine military experience rather than receive<br \/>\nspecial treatment.<\/p>\n<p>He described William and Harry as \u201cbrave guys\u201d and said his aim<br \/>\nwas to ensure they could one day say they had fulfilled their<br \/>\nduty.<\/p>\n<p>The revelation echoes comments William himself made in 2010,<br \/>\nwhen he admitted it was \u201ca pity\u201d he had not been allowed to deploy<br \/>\nto Afghanistan while serving with the Army.<\/p>\n<p>At the time, the Prince acknowledged there were legitimate<br \/>\nsecurity concerns but suggested some objections had been<br \/>\noverstated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are some slightly valid arguments as to why not,\u201d he<br \/>\nsaid, \u201cbut many of them are hyped up as to why I couldn\u2019t go.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>William had originally served with the Household Cavalry before<br \/>\ntransferring to the Royal Air Force, where he qualified as a search<br \/>\nand rescue helicopter pilot. Although some members of his former<br \/>\nregiment were deployed to Afghanistan, he remained in the UK.<\/p>\n<p>Lowther-Pinkerton, who worked for the brothers between 2005 and<br \/>\n2013 before continuing in a part-time role for another year, also<br \/>\nreflected on the ongoing rift between William and Harry.<\/p>\n<p>Asked whether he believed the brothers could repair their<br \/>\nrelationship, he declined to comment directly on the dispute.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think I\u2019d better steer clear of that Harry issue,\u201d he<br \/>\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>However, he added that he remained \u201cvery fond\u201d of the Duke of<br \/>\nSussex and described himself as \u201ca perennial optimist\u201d, suggesting<br \/>\nhe still hoped reconciliation could eventually happen.<\/p>\n<p>The relationship between the brothers has remained strained<br \/>\nsince the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped back from royal duties<br \/>\nin 2020. Tensions have since deepened following the couple\u2019s<br \/>\ninterview with Oprah Winfrey, their Netflix documentary series and<br \/>\nHarry\u2019s memoir, <em>Spare<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Harry said last year that he wanted to rebuild ties with his<br \/>\nfamily, telling the BBC: \u201cI would love reconciliation with my<br \/>\nfamily. There\u2019s no point in continuing to fight anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are expected to return to Britain<br \/>\ntogether next month with their children, Prince Archie and Princess<br \/>\nLilibet, for events marking one year until the Birmingham Invictus<br \/>\nGames.
