The Rhode Island quartet chose to hone in on the dark side of organized religion with this new record, as vocalist <strong>Keziah \u201cKZ\u201d Staska<\/strong> explained:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cThe title embodies the theme. In the past, I was so inwardly focused; most of our songs were about myself and whatever I was emotionally dealing with. I wanted to make a record that wasn\u2019t extremely introspective. The album interrogates the negative impact of organized religion when it\u2019s misused to justify violence, genocide, and hatred of others. It\u2019s not a purely atheistic statement either.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m choosing not to believe in a God who\u2019s invoked to validate evil. The prevailing narrative in heavy music is often, \u2018If you believe in God, you\u2019re stupid.\u2019 This isn\u2019t our narrative. Believing in God isn\u2019t wrong. I don\u2019t think the mainstream God in the political landscape is the one we should be looking for though.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Production of this record was overseen at <strong>Silver Bullet Studios<\/strong> in Burlington, CT with <strong>Chris Teti<\/strong> (<strong>The World Is A Beautiful Place &amp; I Am No Longer Afraid To Die<\/strong>, <strong>Fiddlehead<\/strong>) behind the boards. \u201c<strong>Plath Vs. Kafka Vs. Romance<\/strong>\u201d has been given the role of the lead single from the record and a video for it shot by ex-<strong>Stray From The Path<\/strong> bassist\/vocalist <strong>Anthony Altamura<\/strong> is now streaming below. <strong>KZ<\/strong> said of that song:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cWe wanted to embrace the more mosh-y early two-thousands style we\u2019d been ignoring for a while. We hit it here. I wrote \u2018<strong>Plath Vs. Kafka Vs. Romance<\/strong>\u2019 at a time in my life when things were going pretty well for me. If I discussed being miserable in the lyrics, it would\u2019ve been disingenuous. I don\u2019t know how to write the songs I\u2019ve come to be known for when things are okay though.<\/p>\n<p>It was scary to not know what my creative process was going to look like. I\u2019m basically saying, \u2018I wish I knew how to write songs about being happy, but I don\u2019t.
