Amid recent behind-the-scenes drama<\/a> and upheaval<\/a> at 60 Minutes<\/em><\/a>, veteran journalist Katie Couric<\/a> has recalled her own frustrations while working on the show between 2006 and 2011. One particular moment that left a bad taste in her mouth was when Anderson Cooper<\/a> \u201cstole\u201d her story and she felt \u201cgaslit\u201d afterwards.<\/p>\n Appearing on the latest episode of Alex Cooper\u2019s Call Her Daddy<\/em><\/a> podcast, Couric claimed that an unnamed executive producer with the program didn\u2019t like working with her. \u201cThe head of 60 Minutes<\/em> at the time, I think maybe because he wasn\u2019t really consulted about bringing me over,\u201d she said, per Entertainment Weekly<\/a>, noting how she\u2019d moved from NBC News to CBS News following her stint on the Today<\/em><\/a> show.<\/p>\n \u201cI was sort of seen as somebody from a different network coming in and sort of muddying the waters,\u201d Couric continued. \u201cI hadn\u2019t come up in the CBS system. So I don\u2019t know, he just didn\u2019t like me.\u201d<\/p>\n She recalled one particular incident when a story she pitched on Lady Gaga<\/a> was initially rejected, only to be given to a different correspondent a year later.<\/p>\n \u201cI always felt like\u00a060 Minutes<\/em>\u00a0was a little behind on like, big cultural moments,\u201d Couric said. \u201cI said, \u2018There\u2019s this incredible singer and I think she\u2019s gonna be the next Madonna. She\u2019s so interesting. She went to Catholic school, but she\u2019s so outrageous and she\u2019s huge and she\u2019s got, you know, a huge number one song. I think we should do a profile of this person: Lady Gaga.\u201d<\/p>\n Couric said she made this pitch back in 2009 when Gaga landed her first number-one single with \u201cJust Dance.\u201d At the time, she was told, \u201cIt\u2019s just not for us,\u201d and the pitch was turned down. A year later, however, following Gaga\u2019s hit records \u201cPoker Face,\u201d \u201cPaparazzi,\u201d and \u201cBad Romance,\u201d the show suddenly wanted the interview.<\/p>\n \u201cI was like, \u2018Okay, well she\u2019s kind of overexposed now,’\u201d Couric recalled. \u201cAnd I thought, you know, wouldn\u2019t it be nice to get somebody right as they\u2019re about to pop instead of a year later?\u201d<\/p>\n Still, Couric was excited for the interview until she realized another reporter had been assigned the story. She said the Statement Department called her producer, saying they were \u201cvery confused\u201d because Scott Pelley<\/a> and his team were asking about interviewing Clinton.<\/p>\n \u201cSo I go to [then-executive producer] Jeff Fager, and I say, \u2018I thought you wanted me to do Hillary. You told me explicitly that you wanted to assign that story to me.\u2019 And he said, \u2018Yeah, we decided to change things up.\u2019 It made me insane,\u201d Couric shared.<\/p>\n She said she was particularly frustrated that the changes were made behind her back. \u201cLike, without even the decency to call me and say, \u2018Guess what? We decided to reassign the story, and this is why,’\u201d Couric added. \u201cTalk about getting gaslit.
