In her disco era.<\/p>\n
Miranda Lambert<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0is taking her music in a very different direction, and as she continues to tease new music with her new label\u00a0MCA<\/a><\/strong>, marking a new chapter in her decorated recording career, she\u2019s venturing into a new avenue of country music.<\/p>\n This morning, she announced her new album Crisco<\/em>, which is due out everywhere on October 2nd. She co-produced it with Frasure, and it will feature12 tracks as Miranda explores \u201cheartbreak and hope, highways and honky-tonks, rhinestones and reflection, creating a record that feels both timeless and refreshingly alive\u201d:<\/p>\n She says that she\u2019s always loved \u201cevery corner of country music,\u201d and with Crisco<\/em>, she wanted to lean into the more fun, upbeat kinds of songs that \u201cmake you dance\u201d:<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve always loved every corner of country music. The heartbreak songs, the honky-tonk songs, the songs that make you think and the songs that make you dance. Making this record reminded me that those things don\u2019t have to be separated. <\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n We followed the songs wherever they wanted to go, trusted our instincts and ended up with something that feels really fun and really honest to who I am.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n She\u2019s already released the title track, and has teased the next song dropping this Friday called \u201cTill The Going\u2019s Gone,\u201d the album will also include tracks like \u201cWhiskey Business,\u201d \u201cCuttin\u2019 Onions,\u201d \u201cCowgirl Curtsy\u201d and \u201cTwo Things Can Be True,\u201d and her duet with Chris Stapleton that was released last year, \u201cA Song To Sing,\u201d is also included.<\/p>\n On \u201cCrisco,\u201d which was the first taste of where her muse has taken her, Miranda said she wanted it to feel \u201cnostalgic\u201d and fun, adding that it was a unique challenge to make a song that was \u201cfamiliar\u201d and \u201cFresh\u201d at the same time, and of course, she was deeply inspired by the likes of\u00a0 Glen Campbell, Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers and that 70s and 80s time when those artists in particular were fusing in a lot of disco:<\/p>\n \u201cWe wanted something that feels familiar but also fresh, which is really hard to do. We leaned into all the things I grew up loving about country music \u2013 Glen Campbell, Kenny and Dolly; very \u201970s and \u201980s.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n It\u2019s a fun mix of all these sides of country music that I\u2019ve never fully explored before, even down to using strings in a bigger way. I almost can\u2019t believe I\u2019ve made this many records without really going there, but it was magical to hear how much strings can transform a song.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n Based on the several songs she\u2019s released thus far, that seems to be a theme in terms of the sound, and I love 70s and 80s-era music of any kind, and really any genre, so I love that she\u2019s playing with that here. From iconic songs like \u201cSouthern Nights\u201d and of course \u201cIslands in the Stream,\u201d it\u2019s nothing new for disco to be part of country.<\/p>\n I mean, who could forget the whole\u00a0Urban Cowboy<\/em>\u00a0scene? But I\u2019m here for it because Miranda is the kind of artist who can do it and do it well. It won\u2019t be for everybody, but I can appreciate her trying something new and going in a different direction with this new chapter.<\/p>\n Miranda recruited longtime collaborators and incredible writers in Natalie Hemby, Ashley Monroe, Waylon Payne, Aaron Raitiere, Josh Osborne and more, and even though the music might sound a little bit different than what we\u2019re used to hearing from Miranda, I have no doubt the writing will be everything we always expect from her and more.<\/p>\n It\u2019s no secret that she can do down-the-middle country like nobody\u2019s business, and she\u2019s certainly earned the right to experiment and do whatever she wants, and I will certainly be listening and I really can\u2019t wait to hear it all.<\/p>\n You can check out the full Cricso<\/em> tracklist below.<\/p>\n 1.
