Dave DeMille<\/span> A summer lineup of concerts, educational talks and youth activities is scheduled at the Charlevoix Public Library.<\/p>\n The July calendar includes weekly jazz performances, hands-on programs for children and a range of presentations covering science, history and local topics, according to a community announcement. Events will take place throughout the library campus and at select community locations.<\/p>\n The library\u2019s \u201cJazz at the Library Concert Series\u201d will bring live music to the Children\u2019s Garden at 6:30 p.m. throughout the summer. Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs, with performances moving indoors during inclement weather.<\/p>\n Scheduled performers include the Steve Stargardt Trio, featuring Andy Evans on bass, Jon Lindeneau on drums and Steve Stargardt on keys, along with guest musicians appearing at various dates, according to the announcement.<\/p>\n The series includes appearances by saxophonists Chris Bickley and Bill Sears, flutist Laurie Sears and vocalist Claudia Schmidt later in the season.<\/p>\n Adult-focused programming will feature a variety of educational sessions and discussions during the month.<\/p>\n A presentation on Great Lakes dune systems will be led by Little Traverse Conservancy environmental education staff at 6:30 p.m. in the Community Room, focusing on the region\u2019s unique landscapes and species such as the Pitcher\u2019s thistle, according to the announcement.<\/p>\n A separate program will examine monarch butterfly migration, with University of Michigan researcher Andr\u00e9 Green discussing environmental and genetic factors affecting the species.<\/p>\n Other offerings include a discussion on insights gained from historic cookbooks, a book discussion of \u201cFamily of Spies\u201d by Christine Kuehn and a screening of the film \u201cStand By Me\u201d followed by a group discussion.<\/p>\n Local historian Patrick McCleary will also present on the history of Boyne City, sharing research compiled over more than four decades.<\/p>\n Programming for children and families will include interactive and educational activities across multiple dates.<\/p>\n Highlights include a sensory \u201cMesstival\u201d in the Children\u2019s Garden, Lego building sessions and a dinosaur-themed bubble show featuring interactive elements and dance activities, according to the announcement.<\/p>\n Additional programs include craft sessions, a cotton candy science demonstration and a performance by Dino Academy featuring live-action storytelling and puppetry.<\/p>\n Regular storytimes will continue in the Children\u2019s Garden, with one session scheduled at the Charlevoix Farmers Market.<\/p>\n Teen-focused programming includes a craft session using Egyptian papyrus bookmarks, allowing participants to create designs using stamps and paint.<\/p>\n The library will also host gentle movement classes through late summer, designed to support strength and relaxation.
