Supergirl<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>will be one of the biggest releases of the year. Here are some of the biggest\u00a0DC Universe<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0connections the movie will have and what you should watch ahead of its debut this week.<\/p>\n Supergirl is set to release in theaters on June 26, 2026, and will be based on Tom King\u2019s 2021-2022 comic book series illustrated Bilquis Evely. The film stars\u00a0Milly\u00a0Alcock<\/a>, who will play the titular role of Kara Zor-El. It is written by Ana Nogueira and produced by DC Studios co-CEOs\u00a0James Gunn<\/a>\u00a0and Peter Safran.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen an unexpected and ruthless adversary strikes too close to home, Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, reluctantly joins forces with an unlikely companion on an epic, interstellar journey of vengeance and justice,\u201d reads the film\u2019s official synopsis.<\/p>\n The biggest thing to know about the upcoming Supergirl movie is that, unlike something like a larger-scale hero movie, the upcoming DCU movie is much more focused on Kara and her singular adventure. The movie follows Supergirl as she joins forces with Ruthye Marye Knoll, a young girl who recruits her to help avenge her father\u2019s death.<\/p>\n While Supergirl herself is a superpowered Kryptonian, she won\u2019t be facing off against any of DC\u2019s most iconic villains. Instead, the movie is described as a \u201croad trip\u201d type of film, between two women who are going through their own issues separately, but must come together.<\/p>\n \u201cI hate a long film.\u201d director Craig Gillespie said to THR<\/a>. \u201cBecause it\u2019s this road trip between two women [Alcock and co-star Eve Ridley], and it\u2019s very specific about their goals and where they\u2019re getting to and going through their trauma, it just ended up landing there. The more that we kept it lean and true to just their mission, the better the film was. There is a ticking clock in this.\u201d<\/p>\n The movie will also likely focus largely on Kara\u2019s own issues dealing with the destruction of Krypton, as well as her relationship with Superman, her cousin.
