The King<\/a>, who is Supreme Governor of the Church of England, will \u201cprotect the space for Faith\u201d under a redrafted job description from Buckingham Palace.<\/p>\nPublished in the annual review of the Royal family\u2019s finances, the Sovereign Grant report 2025-26, it changes the description of the King\u2019s role as \u201cHead of Nation\u201d from last year, when he was the \u201cHead of the Church of England and Defender of the Faith\u201d.<\/p>\n
This year it goes further to specify: \u201cHis Majesty is Supreme Governor of the Church of England and protects the space for Faith within the multi-faith nation.\u201d<\/p>\n
Before the King\u2019s coronation, there was debate over whether the King would choose to be \u201cDefender of Faith\u201d in the plural, rather than \u201cthe Faith\u201d as his Christian ancestors had been. In the event, he chose the traditional wording.<\/p>\n
But he has made interfaith dialogue one of the cornerstones of his working life, both as Prince of Wales and now as King.
