Dean McDermott <\/b><\/a>is celebrating a milestone in his sobriety journey.<\/p>\n

\u201cWOW we wee WOW!! 3 years!! Couldn\u2019t have done it without my Family, Friends, Fellowship, Sponsor and a 12 step program!!\u201d McDermott, 59, wrote via Instagram<\/span><\/a> on Friday, June 26. \u201cIt all started with surrendering and asking for help.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued, \u201cThe best decision I\u2019ve ever made. If you\u2019re struggling, reach out. I love you all.\u201d<\/p>\n

McDermott also uploaded a video, calling himself \u201cclean Dean\u201d and proclaiming that he is in good spirits.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tDean McDermott has a reason to celebrate after reaching one year of sobriety. The actor, 57, took to Instagram on Tuesday, July 2, to commemorate the milestone moment, writing, \u201cLast week was an incredible week of love, hugs and recovery. Thank you to my Sponsor, my Sponsee Brothers and everyone in the fellowship for celebrating [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cToday, June 26, I celebrate three years being clean and sober. Yes, it can be done,\u201d he said. \u201cI want to let you know out there if you\u2019re suffering and you\u2019re in pain [that] it can be done. If I can do it, you can do it. It starts by reaching out your hand and asking for help.\u201d<\/p>\n

McDermott continued, \u201cI know in your darkest days that seems like Mount Everest to do that, but reach out. \u2026 Ask for help, it\u2019s OK. You can\u2019t do this thing alone, none of us can.\u201d<\/p>\n

McDermott, who stopped drinking<\/span><\/a> following his 2023 divorce from Tori Spelling<\/b>, initially blamed the demise of his marriage on his continued substance abuse issues.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlcohol made me feel good enough. I started feeling good enough until it got to a point where it didn\u2019t \u2014 it ended up in isolation,\u201d McDermott told the Daily Mail<\/i><\/span><\/a> <\/i>in November 2023. \u201cIt ended up with me drinking a fifth of tequila every night, seven days a week and a handful of [prescription medications] by myself with a beautiful family in the other room. That\u2019s what it led to and that\u2019s what led to the brokenness and to what happened between me and Tori. I couldn\u2019t do it anymore. I couldn\u2019t live that life anymore. I was tired of the anger and the yelling.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to McDermott, his alcohol-induced fights \u201cpetrified\u201d Spelling, 53, and their five children. (McDermott also shares son Jack, 27, with ex-wife Mary Jo Eustace<\/b>.)<\/p>\n

\u201cI would wake up angry that I woke up and I have these five, six beautiful kids in my life, but I was so dark and hopeless, I couldn\u2019t see that,\u201d McDermott recalled to the outlet, praising Spelling\u2019s support. \u201cShe came from just such a place of love and wanting me to be healthy and happy. \u2026 It was codependence. She put my well-being well ahead of hers. She loved me so much that she didn\u2019t really want to tell me how it was affecting her, although I could see it in her face.\u201d<\/p>\n
