The movie she\u2019s in is pure junk, with a tired plotline about found family, muddy visuals that try \u2013 and fail \u2013 to hide the janky CGI and a lame villain whose name I can\u2019t even remember. (Klurg? Klog? Krang? Who cares, he was lame!)<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s no need to subject yourself to this summer blockbuster slop when there\u2019s so much to watch at home on streamers like <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/media-network\/netflix\/\">Netflix<\/a>, HBO Max and <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/media-network\/amazon-prime\/\">Prime Video<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re craving thrilling action movies with kick-ass heroines, ditch the spandex and stream these films starring <strong>Scarlett Johansson<\/strong>, <strong>Charlize Theron<\/strong>, <strong>Bridget Fonda<\/strong> and a bunch of dudes who get their faces slapped and punched.<\/p>\n<h2>\u2018Lucy\u2019 (2014)<\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4362424\" style=\"width: 900px;\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\">\n<div class=\"ratio-based-placeholder\" style=\"padding-bottom:54.857142857143%;\"><\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><span class=\"caption\"><br \/>\n Scarlett Johansson in Lucy.<\/span> <span class=\"credit\">Universal Pictures\/courtesy Everett Collection<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hometownsource.com\/monticello_times\/movie-review-supergirl-heroine-soars-but-flick-falls-short\/article_50a262b1-86cc-4dd3-86fb-ed1f4c0afb56.html\">Milly Alcock is the best thing about <em>Supergirl<\/em><\/a>, but that doesn\u2019t make the movie worth watching. You need a compelling plot to hook viewers, and Lucy has that in spades. Former Black Widow actress <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrities\/scarlett-johansson\/\"><strong>Scarlett Johansson<\/strong><\/a> stars as Lucy, a young woman who unexpectedly gains superpowers like telekinesis, telepathy and the inability to feel pain after unknowingly ingesting some experimental drugs. Hey, it happens.<\/p>\n<p>As Lucy flees from people who want to exploit her capabilities, she develops additional special abilities like super strength, agility and something called mental time travel. It\u2019s also skillfully directed and paced, with action scenes that are far better than anything you\u2019d see in <em>Supergirl<\/em> or most comic book movies. But I\u2019m going with Atomic Blonde, mainly because it has Theron giving James Bond a run for his martini as a sexy spy you don\u2019t want to mess with.<\/p>\n<p>A list with names of undercover agents working in Berlin has been stolen, and it\u2019s up to MI6 agent Lorraine Broughton (Theron) to find it. When she arrives in Berlin, she teams up with David Percival (<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrities\/james-mcavoy\/\"><strong>James McAvoy<\/strong><\/a>), her main point of contact, who can lead her to Aleksander Bremovych (<strong>Roland M\u00f8ller<\/strong>), a KGB agent she thinks has the list. But Berlin in 1989 is full of dangerous people, and Lorraine isn\u2019t sure who she can trust.<\/p>\n<p><em>Atomic Blonde<\/em>\u2019s plot seems complicated, but it\u2019s pretty simple once you get past all the smoke and mirrors. It\u2019s essentially a watered-down version of <em>Mission: Impossible<\/em>\u2019s story, minus the tech-babble polish that made that film so great. But <em>Blonde<\/em> makes up for it through style, fully embracing the neon colors and techno-dance synths of the decade it\u2019s set in, and Theron, who is punched, kicked, shot at, stabbed and thrown off numerous buildings.
