Beyonc\u00e9<\/a> detailed the lengths it took to turn the hairstyle on her husband, Jay-Z<\/a>, from locs to a combed-out afro.<\/p>\n On Father\u2019s Day (Sunday, June 21), Beyonc\u00e9\u2019s hair care brand C\u00e9cred<\/a> dropped a 7-minute documentary titled The Blueprint<\/em>. Narrated by the 35-time Grammy winner, the short explored Jay-Z’s journey from nearly a decade of wearing wicks to transforming it into a natural fro. Obsess.<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cJay told me a few months ago he was planning on combing out his locks for the Philly show<\/a> with The Roots<\/a>,” Beyonc\u00e9 narrates, referring to her husband\u2019s return to the stage for the first time since 2018. “He wanted to do this in honor of his father. His name was Adnis Reeves, and his favorite sports team was from Philly. His dad used to rock a fro, so he wanted to rock a fro in his honor.”<\/p>\n The Cowboy Carter<\/em><\/a> artist added that she wasn\u2019t \u201call the way convinced\u201d that the hairstyle could be achieved considering that the rapper had \u201cthick, long wicks.\u201d \u201cI thought it was always beautiful that the real reason Jay grew out his hair was to show Blue<\/a> that her hair was like his hair,\u201d she added about their 14-year-old daughter.<\/p>\n Beyonc\u00e9 went on to explain that when Blue was 5 years old, she didn\u2019t feel \u201cconfident\u201d about her natural hair, which changed when Hov locked his hair, along with Beyonc\u00e9 crafting songs like \u201cBrown Skin Girl\u201d<\/a> and \u201cFormation.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n The process of combing out the locs took six days, with Houston hairstylist Letisia “Lety” Ravelo guiding the process, notes GQ<\/a>. Beyonc\u00e9 and other family members joined in, with Beyonc\u00e9 being shown combing out sections alongside hairstyling, all while using C\u00e9cred products throughout.<\/p>\n “I think the key ingredients are patience and love,” Beyonc\u00e9 says in the doc after mentioning products like the Moisture Sealing Lotion<\/a> and Detangling Spray<\/a>.<\/p>\n “It wasn’t just one person who removed his locs. It was a family affair,\u201d she continued.<\/p>\n Beyonc\u00e9 concluded by sharing her admiration for her husband\u2019s patience and sharing that she blow-dried and trimmed his ends before it was washed and braided before takedown.<\/p>\n \u201cI want to thank Jay for trusting C\u00e9cred on his hair journey.
