2026 has already been a great year for horror, but there are still some big releases on the docket. One of the most anticipated films left this year is Robert Eggers’ “Werwulf.”<\/p>\n

Fresh from the success of “Nosferatu,” Eggers is sticking with the world of gothic horror. Esquire just released the first image from “Werwulf,” and also landed an interview with Eggers.<\/p>\n

In addition to the first look, Eggers confirmed that the film will feature dialogue spoken in 1300s Middle English.<\/p>\n

“Sj\u00f3n is just incredibly imaginative and inspiring,” Eggers told Esquire<\/a>. “We worked with two Oxford professors on the dialogue, which is in Middle English, and then worked extensively with a dialect coach on a way to temper the pronunciation in a way that would be understandable to modern audiences.”<\/p>\n

Lily Rose Depp is reuniting with Eggers after the two worked together on “Nosferatu.” According to Eggers, she’s playing a very different type of role in “Werwulf.”<\/p>\n

“Lily, she is the heart of the movie. Lily is truly transformative,” Eggers said. “There\u2019s a very clear physical change in her body and her makeup, but she inhabits a very different person that\u2019s very different from her and very different from any character she\u2019s ever played. She\u2019s Aaron\u2019s wife, and she\u2019s a mother of several children and also a farmer. She\u2019s sort of the most gracious person in the film.”<\/p>\n

Eggers likes authenticity in his film, so naturally, a film about werewolves will feature real wolves, as well, which the director confirmed.<\/p>\n

“We worked with wolf-dog hybrids, which we also worked with in Nosferatu,” Eggers said. “But Aaron spent time with a real wolf, and we learned a lot about the wolf\u2019s behavior. We incorporated a lot of what we learned into his performance and his interactions with Lily and some of the other things that he does in the film.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
