Lorraine Kelly<\/a> has detailed what it was like being in the presence of Sir David Attenborough<\/a> when he was a guest on her self-titled show. The beloved broadcaster, who celebrated his 100th birthday last month, appeared on Lorraine in 2013 to promote his documentary series, Attenborough: 60 Years in the Wild, and the accompanying book. The presenter, 66, reflected on the time she welcomed him onto her show in a new interview with The Times, when she was asked about the last TV series that made her cry.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

After revealing it was the BBC<\/a>‘s recent show that marked Sir David’s groundbreaking career on his 100th birthday<\/a>, she said that having him on her programme “was like God had come on the set”. She said: “David Attenborough’s 100 Years on Planet Earth. Sometimes with these tribute shows you wonder, do they really mean that?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

“But everybody talked about him with such affection and sincerity. He came on my show once and it was like God had come on the set. Do you think you ever get used to being treated like a deity?”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The Scottish host took to Instagram<\/a> on May 8 to share her own tribute to the natural historian, posting a photograph of the pair together from his appearance on Lorraine 13 years ago.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

She wrote: “Happy 100th birthday to this wonderful, kind, inspiring man. We will never see his like again. Thank you Sir David,” alongside the hashtags #legend and #thankyou.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Moments before David Attenborough’s 100 Years on Planet Earth ended, presenter Kirsty Young announced: “Well, even though it’s his birthday week, David has still been hard at work, voicing a brand new series.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

“Tonight, I am thrilled to announce that launching this autumn is Blue Planet III.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

“We felt that we couldn’t go this evening without sharing a little glimpse, recorded just a few days ago, into 100-year-old David Attenborough’s typical working day.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The programme then aired a clip of Sir David providing a voiceover for an animal’s “mating call”, with Kirsty describing him as “an inspiration to us all”.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
