\u201cAbout a year ago, on our way to Australia, we decided to stop over in Vancouver, visit our pal Sterling, and shoot a video for \u2018Concrete,\u2019 one of our favourite songs off the last record,\u201d says Stefan Babcock. \u201cHis concept was mental and ambitious. We did the shoot, and waited for the final product. It didn\u2019t come. Months passed and it seemed like it had disappeared into some technical abyss never to be seen again. Many days I searched the blackhole of my jetlagged memory and wondered if we\u2019d ever even shot the thing. And then a year later, seemingly out of thin air, Sterling (and the video) surfaced. And we love it to death. It took Sterling and 13 designers and animators hundreds and hundreds of hours, physically creating thousands of individual frames, photographing them, animating. We\u2019re fully aware that releasing a video for a song that\u2019s already been out a year is a stupid thing to do. But we don\u2019t care. At this point, we\u2019re in an incredibly lucky position with PUP to mostly do whatever we want with this band, and for us, it was completely worth the wait. The video was made with no AI \u2013 just immense care, patience, and endless frustration on the part of the artists. We\u2019re proud to be a part of Sterling\u2019s vision and this mammoth project. It was made in Los Angeles with producer\u00a0John Congleton<\/strong>\u00a0over the course of three weeks, and it\u2019s the culmination of PUP\u2019s past decade of constant touring and their palpable, livewire chemistry. The album evokes the lightning-in-a-bottle intensity of their self-titled debut (except they are much better at their instruments now), and finds our self-deprecating frontman Stefan Babcock at his most reflective, vulnerable and prolific. Over 12 tracks, Babcock excavates his life\u2019s relationships\u2014romantic, with his bandmates, and most ruthlessly, his relationship to himself. There\u2019s plenty of growth, but also plenty of unpredictable mayhem in the arrangements and an acerbic bite in the writing. And while PUP historically are at one another\u2019s throats during the album process, this time they scrapped their tedious perfectionism and rediscovered the joy of making loud music together.<\/p>\n \u201cWithin days of announcing our last album, coincidentally titled\u00a0The Unraveling of PUPTHEBAND<\/em>, my life unexpectedly imploded. I wrote the lyrics for \u2018Hallways\u2019 while all that was going on. It was a weird fucking week,\u201d says Babcock. \u201cThe title of our new record,\u00a0Who Will Look After The Dogs?<\/em>, is what I wrote at the top of the page, the very first thing written for this album. I think it\u2019s devastating, but in a \u2018holy shit this is overdramatic\u2019 kinda way. At least in context of the line that comes before it. That\u2019s what makes it funny to us. That overblown stuff we all say in our dark moments can be hilarious once you\u2019ve cooled off a bit. I don\u2019t know if anyone else thinks it\u2019s funny, but sometimes you gotta laugh at yourself. It\u2019s the only way out of the abyss.
