Less than one year after D\u2019Angelo<\/b> died at age 51, his three children<\/span><\/a> paid tribute to the soul icon at the 2026 BET Awards<\/a>.<\/p>\n

D\u2019Angelo\u2019s daughter, Imani, and her two brothers, Swayvo (born Michael Archer Jr.) and Morocco, kicked off the star-studded musical tribute on Sunday, June 28<\/a>, with a sweet message about their late father.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo the world, he was D\u2019Angelo, to us he was just dad,\u201d Imani began, before Morocco noted that the \u201cBrown Sugar\u201d crooner was their \u201cbiggest hype man and protector.\u201d<\/p>\n

Morocco continued, \u201cOne of the things that brought our father the most joy was performing with his band, The Vanguard.\u201d<\/p>\n

Some of music\u2019s biggest names in music, including Cardi B, Tyla, Kehlani, Bruno Mars, Olivia Dean and more, delivered sartorial drama while posing on the red carpet, which took place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, June 28. Swayvo, for his part, explained that it was only fitting that The Vanguard helped honor D\u2019Angelo on Sunday.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, it\u2019s only right that they\u2019re here with us along with some other special guests to honor the man who meant the whole world to us,\u201d Swayvo stated. \u201cSo, Pops, this one\u2019s for you. Let\u2019s do it!\u201d<\/p>\n

D\u2019Angelo\u2019s children were joined by Raye, Ari Lennox, George Clinton, BJ the Chicago Kid <\/b>and Durand Bernarr <\/b>to reminisce about the late singer\u2019s discography.<\/p>\n

Us Weekly<\/i> <\/i>confirmed in October 2025<\/span><\/a> that D\u2019Angelo died after a battle with pancreatic cancer.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe shining star of our family has dimmed his light for us in this life,\u201d a family spokesperson told Us<\/i> in a statement at the time. \u201cAfter a prolonged and courageous battle with cancer, we are heartbroken to announce that Michael D\u2019Angelo Archer, known to his fans around the world as D\u2019Angelo, has been called home, departing this life today.\u201d<\/p>\n
