Benny Blanco<\/a> says his mother saw his future with Selena Gomez<\/a> before they were officially together and even encouraged him to marry her while he was still dating someone else.<\/p>\n On the latest episode of his Friends Keep Secrets<\/em><\/a> podcast alongside Breaking Bad<\/em> stars Aaron Paul and Bryan Cranston, the 38-year-old producer recalled the moment his mother made the surprising suggestion.<\/p>\n \u201cThe crazy thing is 2019, I’m shooting a video with Selena. I’m dating someone else,\u201d Blanco recalled near the 39-minute mark in the video below. \u201cMy mom’s on the video shoot and she says, \u2018Hun, \u2026 you should marry Selena.\u2019 And I was like, \u2018What?\u2019 And she was like, \u2018You should be dating someone like Selena.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n He continued, \u201cAnd there was like two times in my life where I left a specific session late or video with her where I was like, \u2018Wow, she’s so cool. She’s like really cool.\u2019 \u2018Cause we were friendly and we were friends, but we weren’t like best friends<\/em>. Like, that’s when it works and she’s my f**kingbest friend,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n Elsewhere in the podcast, Blanco also recalled that an ex-girlfriend of his texted him saying it was \u201cso great\u201d that he and Gomez got married, as she recalled the producer speaking \u201cso positively\u201d about the singer-actress back then.<\/p>\n Blanco and Gomez first collaborated on the 2019 track \u201cI Can\u2019t Get Enough,\u201d which also featured J Balvin and Tainy. A few years later, they collaborated again for her 2023 track \u201cSingle Soon.\u201d<\/p>\n The couple went public with their relationship<\/a> in December 2023, became engaged<\/a> the following year, and tied the knot<\/a> in September 2025.<\/p>\n Blanco and his podcast cohosts Lil Dicky<\/a> and Kristin Batalucco are Complex\u2019s June 2026 cover stars<\/a>.
