John Oliver<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s dreams of being a soap opera star are coming true!<\/p>\n

The British comedian, 49, announced on the Sunday, June 28, episode of HBO\u2019s Last Week Tonight<\/em><\/a> that he has booked gigs on both General Hospital<\/em><\/a> and Days of Our Lives<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Back in March, Oliver appealed for a cameo on ABC\u2019s long-running daytime soap General Hospital<\/em> after discovering that ESPN\u2019s Stephen A. Smith<\/strong><\/a> has played the recurring role of Brick for the past decade.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen John Oliver publicly threw down the gauntlet and said he wanted to appear on a soap, we didn\u2019t hesitate for a second. He was everything you\u2019d hope he\u2019d be: prepared, professional, funny and genuinely kind to everyone on set,\u201d General Hospital<\/em> executive producer Frank Valentini<\/strong> said in a statement to Variety<\/em><\/a>. \u201cHe plays an integral character in the story, and I can\u2019t wait for fans to see who he crosses paths within Port Charles.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tGeneral Hospital has had numerous different cast members during its 60-year run, including some familiar faces. John Stamos got his start on the soap opera with his role as Blackie Parish from 1982 to 1984. Even though he starred on the show for only two years, Stamos has discussed the tremendous impact General Hospital had [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cGeneral Hospital<\/em> was everything I hoped it would be. It\u2019s a true honor to be a small stain on the history of this illustrious show,\u201d Oliver quipped in a statement.<\/p>\n

According to Variety<\/em><\/a>, Oliver said he was \u201cfilled with scorching-hot jealousy\u201d over Smith\u2019s role on General Hospital<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo be clear: soap opera acting is not my Plan B,\u201d the comedian said on Sunday. \u201cI simply offered my hypothetical acting abilities to any soap that would meet my terms, which were: I wanted to play a character with a ridiculous name, I wanted a juicy storyline like murder or slapping and I wanted a dramatic close-up of my face.\u201d<\/p>\n

It seems both General Hospital<\/em> and Days of Our Live<\/em>s, the stalwart NBC\/Peacock soap, answered his call.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am happy to say that I\u2019ve already taped a week of episodes on Days of Our Lives<\/em>, which is clearly a huge honor,\u201d he said on Sunday. \u201cIt\u2019s been home to some of the most renowned soap opera actors, like Deidre Hall<\/strong>, Susan Seaforth Hayes<\/strong> and John Aniston<\/strong>. It\u2019s also featured guest appearances from legends like Dick Van Dyke<\/strong>, Betty White<\/strong> and now me.\u201d<\/p>\n
