The Pine Bluff Convention Center marked its 50th anniversary Friday June 26th at 5:30 p.m., celebrating five decades since opening on June 27th, 1976.<\/p>\n
Since opening, the downtown facility has served as one of Pine Bluff\u2019s primary large-scale venues, hosting conventions, banquets, trade shows, civic events and concerts.<\/p>\n
Over the years, it has brought nationally known performers to the city, including Elvis Presley, Marvin Gaye, Prince and KISS, among others, helping establish the center as a regional hub for entertainment and large public gatherings.<\/p>\n
Beyond major performances, the center has also been used for a wide range of community functions, including civic celebrations, school graduations and other educational events, political gatherings and public forums, sporting events, indoor competitions, banquets and expos.<\/p>\n
The Convention Center has also played a role in the broader development of downtown Pine Bluff\u2019s event and tourism infrastructure, often coordinating with nearby venues such as the Pine Bluff Regional Park area and other civic facilities.<\/p>\n
Its size and flexible design have long made it one of southeast Arkansas\u2019 largest indoor gathering spaces, allowing it to accommodate regional-scale events that draw attendees from across the area.<\/p>\n
In recent years, the facility has continued to host community programming, private events and civic celebrations, including milestone observances such as anniversary galas and other commemorative gatherings.<\/p>\n
The anniversary celebration was hosted by Barbara Dunn and brought together local business owners, residents and officials to reflect on the center\u2019s role in the community, including its economic and cultural impact over the past five decades. Over 300 were in attendance according to Mrs. Dunn.<\/p>\n
