KANSAS CITY, Mo. \u2014 The Kansas City Royals have submitted a plan to rezone part of downtown Kansas City to create a more than 90-acre ballpark district at the southern edge of Crown Center.<\/p>\n
The application was submitted Monday to rezone several Crown Center properties as an urban redevelopment district.<\/p>\n
Proposed data center sparks fear for future of Grinter Farms iconic sunflower fields <\/a><\/p>\n Per the proposal, the ballpark district will be a vibrant mixed-use destination that supports a wide variety of year-round activities \u2013 including professional sporting events, concerts, festivals, community gatherings, private events, sponsorship activations and other programmed experiences.<\/p>\n <\/a> Rezoning proposal for Royals ballpark district at Crown Center<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n The proposal recommends reconstructing the US-71\/22nd Street interchange, I-35\/Pennway Street interchange and the I-35 South off-ramp to 20th Street. It also recommends improvements to several local streets.<\/p>\n Essentially, the plan outlines how traffic patterns would need to change to accommodate the ballpark district.<\/p>\n The proposal also says the height of any new building should not exceed the height of any existing district building by more than 30%.<\/p>\n Grand Boulevard will serve as a primary north-south corridor through the district and a connection to downtown Kansas City, Crown Center and surrounding destinations. Pershing Road, Gillham Road and 27th Street will also serve as corridors.<\/p>\n
