The first version to be released is the Bright-Side Mix by Mark \u201cSpike\u201d Stent, with a Dark-Side Mix set to follow on the next new moon.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking about the track, Gabriel said: <em>\u201cIt\u2019s another song which has taken a while to grow. It was a candidate, in some form, for the <em>i\/o<\/em> record, but didn\u2019t get finished off, but it was always one of my favourites.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Gabriel explained that the song began with a timpani tom-tom pattern inspired by the film <em>Jazz on a Summer\u2019s Day<\/em> and drummer Chico Hamilton.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI think he was the pioneer of the use of timpani sticks on the toms and I always loved that sound; calm and hypnotic,\u201d<\/em> Gabriel said. <em>\u201cIt set a really strong mood for me and the song grew up around it.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<div class=\"jeg_video_container jeg_video_content\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Peter Gabriel - I Belong to the Sky (Bright-Side Mix)\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/4yHQKrvUFSg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>The song explores visualisation, dreams and the process of thoughts becoming reality. Gabriel said he believes reality is \u201cmore malleable than we imagine\u201d and that strong mental images can affect the chances of something materialising.<\/p>\n<p>The cover art for \u201cI Belong to the Sky\u201d is <em>Nimbus de Toekomst 1, 2019<\/em> by Berndnaut Smilde, photographed by Cassander Eeftinck Schattenkerk. Smilde\u2019s work explores light, space, atmosphere and temporary moments, with his <em>Nimbus<\/em> pieces capturing clouds that exist briefly inside architectural spaces before disappearing.<\/p>\n<p>Gabriel said the image connected strongly with the themes of the song.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI loved this image of the sky,\u201d<\/em> he said. <em>\u201cThe cloud brought inside \u2013 that mixture of outside and interior worlds. I think that\u2019s what the song is all about.
