King Charles has taken part in one of the oldest and most
\nunusual royal traditions at the start of an important week for his
\nfamily.<\/p>\n
The King oversaw the Ceremony of the Keys, the special rite that
\nhappens when the Monarch arrives at one of their most symbolic
\nresidences.<\/p>\n
Charles III was presented with the keys of the City of Edinburgh
\nas he took up residence at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in the heart
\nof the Scottish capital.<\/p>\n
As is traditional, the Lord Provost presented His Majesty with
\nthe keys to symbolise his arrival in Edinburgh. Councillor Robert
\nAldridge offered the keys to The King on a velvet cushion.<\/p>\n

Tradition demands that The King actually receive the keys and so
\nCharles III lay his hand on them.<\/p>\n
As is usual, The King then ceremonially returned them to the
\nLord Provost for safekeeping.<\/p>\n
The Balaklava Company, the 5th Battalion, The Royal Regiment of
\nScotland was on parade to welcome The King to Holyyroodhouse, his
\nofficial residence in Scotland. Although King Charles has other
\nhomes in the country, they are private \u2013 among the most famous of
\nhis Scottish residences is Balmoral Castle.<\/p>\n
During the Ceremony of the Keys, King Charles inspected the
\ncompany.<\/p>\n

The traditional event marked the official start of Scotland
\nWeek, the annual week or so of engagements carried out every summer
\nby The King and Queen who will also be joined by other members of
\nthe Royal Family for this important time.<\/p>\n
The King chose a trouser suit for the Ceremony of the Keys. Just
\na few days earlier, on another visit to Edinburgh, he had worn a
\nkilt for the opening of the Scottish Parliament\u2019s 7th session.<\/p>\n
Royal Week will see The King and Queen carry out a range of
\nengagements across Scotland. While The King was overseeing the
\nCeremony of the Keys, Queen Camilla was meeting one of Scotland\u2019s
\nmost famous authors, J.K. Rowling.<\/p>\n
Later, King Charles and Queen Camilla were joined by the
\nPrincess Royal for a garden party at Holyroodhouse.<\/p>\n
The Queen chose a dark navy outfit with wide brimmed hat while
\nPrincess Anne was in another rewear after a month when raiding her
\nwardrobe has won her new fashion fans. Her latest pick was a dark
\nred patterned coat with a matching scarf that she paired with a
\nhuge hat that gave The Queen a run for her money.<\/p>\n
Royal Week in Scotland continues until July 3.<\/p>\n
