Shenango China Exhibition at the Hoyt<\/strong><\/p>\nNEW CASTLE, Pa. \u2013 Arts & Education at the Hoyt will present \u201cShenango China: People, Process & Products,\u201d an abbreviated display of 100 years of achievements. Curated from the museum\u2019s ever growing collection, the new exhibition honors not only the history of the company, but the pride and skill of the people who brought it to life.<\/p>\n
For much of the 20th century, Shenango China was at the heart of New Castle\u2019s identity, employing more than 33,000 people over its lifetime.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Alongside examples of popular shapes and patterns, the exhibit shares what each department contributed to the process and how everyday hands turned raw materials into objects of beauty and purpose used across the globe. More than an industrial history, this is a story of community, family, and shared accomplishment.<\/p>\n
The exhibition will be open during regular museum hours: Tuesday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free.<\/p>\n
Carillon Concert Series at Westminster\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\nNEW WILMINGTON, Pa. \u2013 Westminster College will host its annual summer carillon concert series featuring four accomplished guest carillonneurs performing on the college\u2019s 42-bell Duff-Armington Memorial Carillon on select Friday afternoons in July and August.<\/p>\n
One of only 55 college carillons in the nation, Westminster\u2019s Duff-Armington Memorial Carillon is an integral part of campus life. The 42 bells ring the \u201cWestminster Chime\u201d every quarter hour throughout the day.<\/p>\n
The free concerts will begin at 11:30 a.m. on the Quad outside Old Main. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and lunch while enjoying the performances. In the event of inclement weather, concerts will be held in Wallace Memorial Chapel.<\/p>\n
\u00a0This summer\u2019s featured guest carillonneurs include:<\/p>\n
\n- July 24: <\/strong>Andr\u00e9e-Anne Doane, carillonneur at St. Joseph\u2019s Oratory of Mount Royal in Montreal, Quebec. A vocalist, organist and educator, Doane has performed internationally and has served as the oratory\u2019s titular carillonneur since 2009.<\/li>\n
- July 31: <\/strong>Sheryl Modlin, carillonneur at the Arter Memorial Carillon at Church of the Saviour\/United Methodist Church in Cleveland Heights, Ohio. A pediatric anesthesiologist at Cleveland Clinic, Modlin has performed carillon music for worship services, holidays and community events for more than a decade.<\/li>\n
- Aug. 7: <\/strong>Julie Zhu, a composer, artist and carillonneur whose work combines instrumental music, electronics and performance art. An assistant professor of performing arts technology at the University of Michigan, Zhu performs regularly on the University\u2019s Burton Memorial Tower and the Ann and Robert H. Lurie Tower and previously served as resident carillonneur at St. Thomas Church Fifth Avenue in New York.<\/li>\n
- Aug. 14:<\/strong> Michael Gancz, a carillonneur, composer and music researcher pursuing a doctorate at Stanford University\u2019s Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics. Gancz performs on Stanford\u2019s Lou Henry Hoover Memorial Carillon and holds music degrees from Yale University and a carillon diploma from the Royal Carillon School \u201cJef Denyn\u201d in Mechelen, Belgium.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
