Esteemed veteran emcee Homeboy Sandman is teaming up with producer Jack Splash for a whole album of vibrant hip-hop. At least I assume it will be vibrant based on the lead single.<\/p>\n
Resonance Frequency<\/em>, out at the end of July, is preceded this week by “Twentyfourseven,” a song that has me eager to hear the rest of the project. Splash built the beat out of Steve Miller Band’s oft-sampled<\/a> “Fly Like An Eagle” among other ingredients, splicing it all into a frenetic funk track that makes a fantastic launchpad for Sandman’s bars. Though at risk of being upstaged by all the popping bass and blaring horns, he commands the mic here with his usual understated grit.<\/p>\n A word from Sandman:<\/p>\n This is what Jack does. This is what I do. It\u2019s not a hobby, it\u2019s not a job. It\u2019s a lifestyle. Perpetual creation. It\u2019s not something that\u2019s only happening when somebody\u2019s looking. Resonance Frequency<\/em>; Jack and I are putting out a signal.
