Big Brother<\/em><\/a> is a social game, and sometimes it helps to have a partner by your side. From Jeff Schroede<\/strong>r and Jordan Lloyd<\/strong> to whatever Vince Panaro<\/strong><\/a> and Morgan Pope<\/strong> had last year, showmances<\/a> have been a staple of the game for almost as long as it has existed.<\/p>\n

But what makes some showmances work, while others falter? Big Brother<\/em> host Julie Chen Moonves<\/strong><\/a> ventured a guess, exclusively telling Us Weekly<\/em> that the showmances that work are \u201cthe ones that know how to not rub people the wrong way.\u201d<\/p>\n

She cited Jeff and Jordan (Big Brother 11<\/em> and 13<\/em>) as an example, pointing out that they did not kiss in front of people in the house, minimizing their threat level as a duo. Jordan, now 39, went on to win the season, while Jeff, 48, placed fifth.<\/p>\n

But it\u2019s not that simple. On Jeff and Jordan\u2019s second season, Big Brother 13<\/em>, they were joined by fellow returning showmance Brendon Villegas<\/strong> and Rachel Reilly<\/strong>. They were known for flaunting their love, with Rachel, 41, introducing the iconic line \u201cno one comes between me and my man\u201d into the Big Brother<\/em> lexicon.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe saw Rachel Reilly be loud and brash and take home the prize,\u201d Julie, 56, said, referring to the Big Brother 13<\/em> winner.<\/p>\n

\u201cI guess it\u2019s just prayer?\u201d Julie concluded.<\/p>\n

In a game for $750,000, not all showmances are created equally. Tyler Crispen<\/strong> and Angela Rummans<\/strong> made it to the final four on Big Brother 20<\/em>, while that same season, Bayleigh Dayton<\/strong> and Chris \u201cSwaggy C\u201d Williams<\/strong> both went out relatively early.<\/p>\n

As Julie loves to say, expect the unexpected. Even she had to admit, there\u2019s no hard-and-fast rule to guarantee a showmance makes it far in the game.<\/p>\n

Through 27 seasons, however, it has become clear that having a partner \u2014 or partners \u2014 to look out for you can help you get far in the game.<\/p>\n

That may hold especially true for Big Brother 28<\/em> as details of the upcoming season begin to seep out. Rumors have flown for weeks that CBS will bring back returning players as part of a way to celebrate the upcoming 1,000th episode of Big Brother.<\/p>\n
