Angelina Jolie<\/span><\/a> has reportedly been preparing her kids for her eventual death.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cI raise my kids almost preparing them for my absence and not as much preparing to be a grandmother,\u201d the Oscar-winning actor told Variety<\/a>. \u201cThat\u2019s what happens when you consider death as a reality.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In her latest movie, \u201cCouture,\u201d Jolie plays a filmmaker who receives a breast cancer diagnosis. <\/span>It\u2019s a subject that\u2019s familiar to her. <\/span>In 2013, she <\/span>underwent a preventive double mastectomy.<\/span><\/a> <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

I<\/span>n a <\/span>New York Times op-ed,<\/span><\/a> Jolie explained that she had her breasts removed because she has a mutated BRCA1 gene that\u2019s known to raise a woman\u2019s risk of breast and ovarian cancers. Her mother, Marcheline Bertrand, died of breast and ovarian cancer at 56.<\/span> <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cShe held out long enough to meet the first of her grandchildren and to hold them in her arms,\u201d Jolie wrote. \u201cBut my other children will never have the chance to know her and experience how loving and gracious she was.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Jolie told Variety that she raised her kids to be prepared for her absence because she\u2019s \u201cnever lived feeling like I\u2019m going to have a long life.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s very sobering in realizing \u2013 like the [doctor] says in the film \u2014 we\u2019re all going to die, we\u2019re all not here forever,\u201d Jolie said. \u201cI think having lost my mom young and never met my grandmother, I have never lived feeling like I\u2019m going to have a long life.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cI\u2019m already past the age when my mother was diagnosed,\u201d Jolie added. \u201cI may struggle from almost feeling like I can\u2019t live in the moment because I feel like I have to push and rush because time\u2019s running out.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Now that they\u2019re older, Jolie\u2019s children have been encouraging her to go out and embrace life.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cMy kids are almost all 18, so now they want to see me traveling the world, they want me to get out and do things,\u201d Jolie said. \u201cThey know me more than anybody, and they still like me, which says a lot. I think they\u2019re very encouraging of me kind of getting back to aspects of myself that maybe I hadn\u2019t felt as free to do.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
