I want more for Jonathan Majors than to play the lead of a movie designed to make its audience afraid of Muslims.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
The film, \u201cRun Hide Fight: Infidels<\/a>,\u201d is a sequel to a franchise I had no clue existed. Its logline, first shared by Page Six Hollywood<\/a>, is as stereotypical as the title suggests it to be.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cWhen radical Islamic terrorists hijack a liberal college\u2019s pro-Palestine encampment to enforce barbaric Sharia law on students and execute infidels in a makeshift caliphate, a ragtag band of red-blooded students, a security guard tired of \u2018Uncle Tom\u2019 smears, and a Delta Force vet must arm up to save their clueless peers and keep America from surrendering to the enemy on its own soil,\u201d the logline reads.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n It sounds so stupid I could scream. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n In fairness to Majors \u2014 whose star has fallen in the aftermath of being found guilty of one count of third-degree assault and one count of harassment<\/a> involving his former girlfriend \u2014 perhaps that film descriptor isn\u2019t all that different from other Islamophobic works produced by major Hollywood studios.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n He is not the only actor accepting roles in films funded by peculiar sources. Disgraced star Armie Hammer, who was hit with several allegations of sexual misconduct and assault five years ago, is set to star in \u201cCitizen Vigilante,\u201d which was basically banned in Germany because it \u201ccould incite violence against immigrants,\u201d according to The Hollywood Reporter<\/a>. Marvel<\/a> star Anthony Mackie recently starred in \u201cDesert Warrior<\/a>,\u201d the widely panned $150 million film that was intended to revitalize the Saudi film industry. It has yet to gross $1 million. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n Still, there\u2019s something so off-putting about Majors\u2019 new project.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n If the trailer didn\u2019t scream prejudice-promotion propaganda to you, Page Six Hollywood reporter Tatiana Siegel<\/a> gleefully details the attitudes and intentions of the people behind it. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n Siegel, who says the movie \u201cwill make liberal heads explode,\u201d spoke with one of the film\u2019s producers, Dallas Sonnier.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cThe woke mind virus has captured Hollywood for the past 12 years, and while woke is winding down, there is a new obsession with the anti-Israel, pro-Palestine movement that deserves to be mocked in a movie again,\u201d Sonnier said. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cIf you\u2019re afraid to put radical jihadis as your villains, then you\u2019re a wimpy movie producer. We don\u2019t have that fear,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n It\u2019s futile to reason with that level of ignorance. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n However, in these trying economic times, I\u2019m fully aware that many of us may have to do things we wouldn\u2019t normally want to do to make money and survive \u2014 even Hollywood actors. Yet some money is never worth the price of the work required. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n There\u2019s something to be said about never allowing bad times to cheapen one\u2019s morals. That\u2019s what\u2019s most troubling about Majors\u2019 decision to take part in this movie: The role was not likely taken out of necessity. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n Sonnier shared that Majors apparently takes no issue with the content of \u201cRun Hide Fight: Infidels\u201d and will be doing press in the coming months. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cHe loved the script, loved shooting the movie, is so great in the film, and he is totally, 1,000% behind it,\u201d he shared.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n What a fall from grace for the star of \u201cCreed III,\u201d \u201cThe Last Black Man in San Francisco\u201d and \u201cLovecraft Country.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Even if I were not convinced that Majors had learned much of anything<\/span><\/a> from the controversy that derailed his once-soaring acting career, I want better for him than \u201cRun Hide Fight: Infidels.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n But does he want better for himself?<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n Majors may feel like Hollywood turned its back on him, but this seems like a weird pivot considering where he went for cover after the 2023 assault conviction.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n He turned to Black platforms, which gave him far more grace than he arguably earned, and Black audiences, who, for better or worse, largely embraced him. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n I\u2019m not the man\u2019s agent, but where is Tubi? Where is Tyler Perry? We lost BET+, but I imagine Paramount+ still has some funds left in the budget for Black-led movies. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n Conservative pundit Ben Shapiro, whose media company Daily Wire is producing the film, is someone who\u2019s made a whole lot of money playing into the biases of a segment of the population by denying systemic racism while openly engaging <\/span>in<\/span><\/a> speech <\/span>and<\/span><\/a> behavior some might <\/span>describe<\/span><\/a> as pretty damn racist.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n Majors announces his first role in more than two years, and it\u2019s a movie designed to stoke fear and offend Muslims.
