During a conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Yatin Karyekar<\/a> alleged that Kamal Haasan has a tendency to spark controversies intentionally to keep public attention on himself. According to the actor, generating headlines has often been part of Kamal’s approach to staying relevant. \u201cI have worked a lot with Kamal Haasan. There are things that one needs to do to create publicity and controversy. People create controversy for publicity. Yatin also recounted an incident from the sets of Hey Ram, claiming Kamal once staged a protest at an airport over a flight delay. He alleged that the actor sat in front of the aircraft and refused to move, an episode that attracted widespread media attention and, in his view, indirectly benefited the film’s publicity. \u201cHe once sat in front of the aeroplane and refused to move when the flight was delayed. Yatin went on to allege that Kamal Haasan’s perception of his own image also shaped certain creative choices during the filming of Vasool Raja MBBS, the Tamil adaptation of Munna Bhai M.B.B.S.. Citing a scene from the remake, he claimed that Kamal was unwilling to recreate a moment from the original film in which Sanjay Dutt’s character is slapped, opting for a different execution instead.<\/p>\n

\u201cKamal Haasan is very self-obsessed. We were shooting for Vasool Raja MBBS. The scene where Jimmy Shergill slaps Sanjay Dutt in the Hindi version was being recreated in Tamil, but he didn\u2019t let that scene happen. He replaced the slap with a push.\u201d<\/p>\n

Yatin added that the change had left the assistant director visibly anxious. Recalling his own reaction at the time, he said, \u201cI said, \u2018When a Sanjay Dutt can, what is this man\u2019s problem?’\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
