He was 76. <\/p>\n<p>Nilsson \u201cpassed away peacefully in his sleep\u201d at home in Queensland, Australia on Thursday after a four-and-a-half year battle with kidney disease, his family confirmed in <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/kjell.nilsson.9615\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a Facebook post<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a long and painful journey, filled with countless battles to overcome, including the gradual loss of his bodily autonomy,\u201d said the family, which includes his five sons.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>\u201cMad Max 2\u201d star Kjell Nilsson (seen above)  died on Thursday at age 76 after a four-year battle with kidney disease. <span class=\"credit\">\/ SplashNews.com<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>Nilsson passed away with his loved ones by his side, his family confirmed in a Facebook post.  <span class=\"credit\">Dinendra Haria \/ Shutterstock<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>They added that Nilsson\u2019s final days alive \u201cwere filled with joy, gratitude, peace, and acceptance.
