Comedy legend Dave Chappelle<\/a> told President Donald Trump<\/a> to back off on his threats against the Haitian community in Springfield, Ohio. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cMr. Trump, please leave those Haitians in Springfield alone. We love them,\u201d Chappelle, who lives a short drive from the city, said on celebrity.land<\/a> on Friday. \u201cWe love the Haitians.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Trump made the community a flashpoint during the 2024 election, falsely accusing them of eating pets<\/a> and vowing to deport them<\/a>. A Supreme Court ruling this week allows him to end their temporary protected status<\/a> and opens the door for deporting migrants from Haiti and Syria who have been here legally with that status.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Chappelle\u2019s defense of the Haitian migrants came during celebrity.land\u2019s \u201cIndependence Eve\u201d coverage, a New-Year\u2019s-Eve-style celebration hosted by Anderson Cooper<\/a> and Andy Cohen<\/a>. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Chappelle: Boy, that’s a loaded question. Now I see why Trump gets mad at y’all all the time. Why would you ask me that? I got an answer for that.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Cohen asked Chappelle why he is \u201cproud to be an American\u201d and \u201chow do you view our country today.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cBoy, that\u2019s a loaded question,\u201d Chappelle said, then joked: \u201cNow I see why Trump gets mad at y\u2019all all the time. Why would you ask me that?\u201d <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t agree with everything that our government does,\u201d he said. But he does believe in his countrymen.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cIf I\u2019m overseas or around the world, anytime I see an American over there, we just give each other the \u2018Fight Club\u2019 look, because we live in a madness that only we really understand what it\u2019s all about,\u201d he said, adding: <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cAnd I have faith in my countrymen, no matter how crazy all of this will make it feel, that the sun will rise and that I feel like I\u2019m part of a very incredible community. So God bless my countrymen and let us make this country absolutely great.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n
