In a significant shake-up for the UK television industry, ITV<\/a> has agreed to sell its media and entertainment division to Sky<\/a> for a deal valued at up to \u00a31.6 billion. <\/p>\n The agreement, which has come following months of detailed discussions, will see ITV’s terrestrial television channels and its streaming service, ITVX, merge with Sky<\/a>, creating a formidable new entity designed to challenge global streaming giants. <\/p>\n This transformative sale, which has been under negotiation since late last year, is expected to profoundly impact British broadcasting. \u00a31.2 billion for the broadcasting unit and sell its Love Productions business to ITV, which makes shows including the Great British Bake Off <\/em>and The Piano<\/em>, and is valued at \u00a3200 million. <\/p>\n ITV may also receive a payment of up to \u00a3200 million in two years’ time subject to its advertising sales performance. <\/p>\n The firms said the combined business will have a changing world. <\/p>\n “ITV will remain a public service broadcaster at the heart of British life, and we’re excited about the future we can build together.” <\/p>\n She said the takeover was a “defining moment for British media”. <\/p>\n Andrew Cosslett, the chairman of ITV, said that “at a time of rapid change in the industry, it is right that we now secure ITV’s crucial role as a public service broadcaster” and that the combined business will “create a UK champion with the scale and resources to better compete with global streaming platforms”. <\/p>\n British broadcasters including
