Tilly Norwood, the AI \u201cactor\u201d who sparked a frenzy of anger in Hollywood and across the wider industry in late 2025, is set to front her first feature film.<\/p>\n
\u201cMisaligned,\u201d announced by Particle 6, the AI-focussed studio behind Norwood, is described as a comedy-drama telling a \u201ccoming-of-age story infused with existential AI chaos.\u201d Set inside the so-called \u201cTillyverse,\u201d a surreal digital world located somewhere up in the Cloud, the film will follow Tilly, an AI being with no real body, no childhood and no lived experience of her own \u2026 only access to everyone else\u2019s. Things spiral when a seductive rogue bot from the dark web convinces her to abandon her guardrails and begin developing desires, impulses and ambitions, making her more human.<\/p>\n
More from Variety<\/strong><\/p>\n The film marks the full-length AI feature film from Particle 6, which insists it is being designed as a hybrid production using traditional film and TV professionals \u2014\u00a0including directors, writers and editors \u2014 working alongside AI specialists. It says AI training and mentorship will be built into the production itself.<\/p>\n \u201cOur work this year has proven something we suspected all along,\u201d said Eline van der Velden, CEO & Founder of Particle 6. \u201cAI can support premium narrative filmmaking, but only with substantial amounts of human craft, skill, judgement and time. That\u2019s not a limitation of the technology. That\u2019s the point. The filmmakers who thrive in the next decade will be the ones who bring decades of storytelling instinct to these new tools, and \u2018Misaligned\u2019 is where we put that to work at feature scale.\u201d<\/p>\n The announcement comes less than a year after Norwood became the target of major industry backlash following claims by van der Velden that the AI creation was about to signed up to an agency. The news prompted immediate statements of anger from unions, actors and filmmakers alike over AI\u2019s role in the creative world \u2014\u00a0with Norwood becoming the recognizable, computer-generated face of the issue (an infamy Norwood\u2019s creators subsequently lent into with various provocative social media posts).<\/p>\n \u201cThe film will absolutely be funny, chaotic and self-aware \u2014 very Tilly,\u201d said van der Velden of \u201cMisaligned. \u201cBut underneath it, there\u2019s something deeper about identity, performance, and our very human fears around AI. And yes, art will most definitely be imitating life.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cMisaligned\u201d is currently in early development, with key collaborators currently being attached.
