The country icon announced that DOLLY: A True Original Musical will begin preview performances Dec. 7 at New York City\u2019s St. James Theatre, with opening night scheduled for Jan. 19, 2027 \u2014 Parton\u2019s 81st birthday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The production, which had its world premiere in Music City in summer 2025, features a book by Parton and two-time Emmy winner Maria S. Schlatter, with Tony-winning director Bartlett Sher at the helm. Alongside classics including \u201cI Will Always Love You,\u201d \u201cJolene,\u201d \u201cCoat of Many Colors\u201d and \u201c9 to 5,\u201d the musical will feature new songs Parton wrote specifically for the production.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">More from Spin:<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cMy whole life has been a musical,\u201d Parton says. \u201cA grand ole opera really and I can\u2019t wait to present it to you on Broadway. I hope you enjoy watching as much as I\u2019ve enjoyed livin\u2019 it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Sher said the Nashville production reinforced just how deeply audiences connect with Parton, but suggested the Broadway version will reveal a more personal side of the singer\/songwriter. \u201cDolly has never really shared her story before,\u201d he says. \u201cShe\u2019s offered glimpses and peeks, but this musical allows her to reveal the unfiltered story in her own words. As we prepare to come to Broadway, we\u2019re thrilled to show that rhinestones were never her whole story.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">According to the production, DOLLY: A True Original Musical traces Parton\u2019s journey from the Smoky Mountains to international stardom through the songs that defined her career.
