I Must Be Dreaming<\/em> marks a major new chapter for the Grammy-winning trio \u2013 bringing fresh music and a renewed creative vision. A press release from Alabama Shakes\u2019 team announced that the new album, I Must Be Dreaming<\/em><\/strong>, arrives\u00a0August 28<\/strong>\u00a0via Island Records.<\/p>\n

Produced by Alabama Shakes alongside six-time GRAMMY\u00ae Award winner Shawn Everett,\u00a0I Must Be Dreaming<\/em>\u00a0expands on the fearless musical exploration that defined the band\u2019s landmark\u00a0Sound & Color<\/em>. Recorded in Nashville at Sound Emporium Studios and Blackbird Studio, the album leans into a richly textured, psychedelic soul sound while exploring love, mortality, human connection, and the increasingly surreal contradictions of modern life.<\/p>\n

The album\u2019s upcoming single,\u00a0\u201cI Feel Hope Coming,\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0captures the heart of that journey. Built around luminous textures, childlike harmonies, and an understated optimism, the song is a tender yet galvanizing call to resist systems that dehumanize and move toward a future rooted in collective care.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis younger generation makes me feel hopeful because they can see through all the political lies\u2014that song\u2019s about holding onto that hope, and refusing to give up,\u201d says Brittany Howard on the track. \u201cI Feel Hope Coming\u201d follows the acclaimed singles\u00a0\u201cAnother Life\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0\u201cAmerican Dream,\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0each revealing a different facet of\u00a0I Must Be Dreaming<\/em>. While \u201cAnother Life\u201d explored the enduring nature of love and \u201cAmerican Dream\u201d confronted the unraveling of once-shared ideals, the new single offers a hopeful counterbalance, completing an emotional portrait of a record that embraces uncertainty while insisting that hope, love, and community remain worth fighting for.<\/p>\n

The album\u2019s title speaks directly to that duality. \u201cThere\u2019s a double meaning to it,\u201d Howard explains. \u201cIt could be saying, \u2018I must be dreaming, because the world is so fucking crazy right now.\u2019 But it could also mean, \u2018I must be dreaming, because the world is so incredibly beautiful<\/a>.\u2019 Both those things can be true at once.\u201d<\/p>\n

Written organically after the band reunited in late 2024,\u00a0I Must Be Dreaming<\/em>\u00a0emerged from an unusually open-ended creative process that allowed songs to evolve in real time.
