During a 2023 appearance on US television with Anderson Cooper to promote Spare, Harry was pressed on why he and Meghan had chosen to retain their royal titles, especially considering the couple’s vocal criticism of their treatment within the Royal Family. Harry’s response was characteristically blunt, delivering a six-word reply, “And what difference would that make?”<\/p>\n
Cooper pressed further, “One of the criticisms that you’ve received is that okay, fine, you wanna move to California, you wanna step back from the institutional role. Why be so public? Why reveal conversations you’ve had with your father or with your brother? You say you tried to do this privately.”<\/p>\n
Harry fired back, “And every single time I’ve tried to do it privately there have been briefings and leakings and planting of stories against me and my wife. You know, the family motto is ‘never complain, never explain.’ But it’s just a motto. And it doesn’t really hold.”<\/p>\n\n\n

One significant consequence of Megxit for Harry, however, was the loss of his automatic right to armed police protection on British soil. The Duke and his family are reportedly just days away from touching down in the UK, where the question of their security arrangements has proven to be a major point of contention for Harry in the run-up to the visit.<\/p>\n
As has been customary for the prince during his visits back to the UK, Harry was required to formally request police protection for the entirety of the trip – which will see Harry and Meghan mark the one year countdown to the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham – a service largely funded by the British taxpayer.<\/p>\n
However, sources indicate that this request has been turned down ahead of the upcoming visit. Furthermore, Harry has been awaiting a review by the Risk Management Board (RMB) for several months – a key part of the process through which the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (Ravec) determines his security needs – only to discover last week that no such review has yet been conducted.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
