But he could still get his royal family back."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"padding-right:0;padding-left:0;\">\n<p>Prince Harry is <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/articles\/ckg5v6n29g6o\">having a bad week<\/a> \u2014 and the royal relatives ostracizing him aren\u2019t looking great either.<\/p>\n<p>Harry, the younger son of Britain\u2019s King Charles III, and six other high-profile defendants <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/live\/c932dy1p94wt\">lost a privacy case Tuesday<\/a> against Associated Newspapers Limited, publisher of the Daily Mail and the Mail on Sunday. A British judge dismissed all claims by the defendants, who included the singer Elton John and his husband, David Furnish, and actresses Sadie Frost and Elizabeth Hurley. They <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.the-independent.com\/news\/uk\/home-news\/prince-harry-daily-mail-phone-hacking-b2903291.html\">argued<\/a> that the tabloids used unlawful tactics such as phone hacking to unearth details of their personal lives for articles published between 1993 and 2011. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\">\n<blockquote>\n<p>Tuesday\u2019s ruling emerged during a visit Harry is making to England to promote charities. But the trip was already overshadowed by an unusually public spat between the prince and palace officials.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/figure>\n<p>In legal filings, Harry said it was \u201cdisturbing to feel that my every move, thought or feeling was being tracked and monitored just for the Mail to make money out of it.\u201d Testifying <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/01\/21\/world\/europe\/prince-harry-emotional-court-daily-mail.html\">emotionally<\/a> in January, he called articles about his dating life \u201cdisgusting\u201d and \u201ccreepy\u201d and said it was \u201c<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/media\/live\/2026\/jan\/21\/prince-harry-daily-mail-court-case-evidence-associated-latest-updates\">beyond cruel<\/a>\u201d to report \u201cconfidential discussions\u201d he had after a photo of his dying mother was published in Italian media. \u201cThey continue to come after me,\u201d he said of the tabloids. \u201cThey have made my wife\u2019s life an absolute misery.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The Mail publisher argued that the articles at issue were generated from lawful sources, such as information from aides, friends and publicists. In a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.com\/uk\/royal-family\/article\/prince-harry-daily-mail-court-case-verdict-judgment-8l36kscpp\">statement<\/a> summarizing the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.judiciary.uk\/judgments\/lawrence-and-others-v-associated-newspapers-limited\/\">400-plus-page ruling<\/a>, Judge Matthew Nicklin of the UK High Court wrote that the claimants failed to prove \u201cthat the information complained of had been obtained unlawfully\u201d and that \u201csuspicion, even where understandable, was not enough.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Harry has filed several lawsuits against British tabloid publishers alleging illegal methods of obtaining information. Previous efforts have met with better results. In December 2023, the prince <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/12\/15\/world\/europe\/prince-harry-tabloid-hacking-lawsuit-ruling.html\">won damages in a privacy lawsuit<\/a> against Mirror Group Newspapers, publisher of the Daily Mirror, Sunday Mirror and Sunday People, when a judge ruled his phone had been hacked. In 2025, Rupert Murdoch\u2019s News Group Newspapers <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/01\/22\/world\/europe\/prince-harry-murdoch-lawsuit.html\">settled a lawsuit with the prince<\/a> while <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/static01.nyt.com\/newsgraphics\/documenttools\/b16bc1c4fb38d1bb\/4dde4615-full.pdf\">admitting \u201cunlawful\u201d conduct<\/a> by private investigators hired by the Sun, one of its tabloids.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-rkv-video\" data-wp-interactive=\"msnbcVideo\" data-wp-context=\"{\" post=\"\" harry=\"\" testifies=\"\" in=\"\" phone-hacking=\"\" lawsuit=\"\" against=\"\" uk=\"\" tabloid=\"\" data-wp-init=\"callbacks.init\">\n<div class=\"msnbc-video-block-flex-box\">\n<div class=\"msnbc-video-block-video-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"msnbc-video-block-video\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<button class=\"msnbc-video-placeholder-button\" data-post-id=\"0\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<svg xmlns=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg\" class=\"styles_playIcon__WaeEf\" viewbox=\"0 0 15 15\" preserveaspectratio=\"xMidYMid\"><path d=\"M0 0v15l15-7.41z\" fill-rule=\"evenodd\"\/><\/svg><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"visually-hidden\">Play<\/span><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/button><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<p>Media intrusiveness is deeply personal to Harry, who blames press aggression for the death of his mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, in a 1997 car crash. He has likened media hounding of his American-born wife, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, to his mother\u2019s experience. Harry and Meghan stepped away from royal life in 2020; they now live in California with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.<\/p>\n<p>Tuesday\u2019s ruling emerged during the second of a five-day visit Harry is making to England to promote charities such as the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.invictusgamesfoundation.org\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.invictusgamesfoundation.org\/\">Invictus Games<\/a>. But the trip was already <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/07\/06\/world\/europe\/prince-harry-uk-meghan-king-charles.html\">overshadowed<\/a> by an <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/prince-harry-uk-visit-exploded-into-palace-sussex-standoff-inside-why-12012332\">unusually public spat<\/a> between the prince and palace officials.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\">\n<blockquote>\n<p>Somehow, the monarchy does not have time or staff enough to figure out sheltering the king\u2019s visiting son in multi-hundred-room Buckingham Palace.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/figure>\n<p>The short version: Harry announced he would travel to Britain. Then came reports that Meghan and the kids might go, too. Accommodation in a royal residence was reportedly offered. All four would travel to Britain, presuming they would be provided with police security \u2014 protection that was rescinded after Harry and Meghan moved away. Then came clarifications: Police security would not be provided outside of royal residences. Meghan and the kids <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.goodmorningamerica.com\/culture\/story\/prince-harry-longer-bringing-meghan-kids-london-week-134472976\">would not go<\/a>. Harry\u2019s security team said there were <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.itv.com\/news\/2026-07-01\/harry-faces-elevated-terror-threat-in-uk-security-report-reveals\">terrorist threats<\/a>. Harry would travel on his own.
