Bijou Phillips <\/b><\/a>is recuperating after undergoing a kidney transplant.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am beyond, beyond grateful to everyone who rushed in to help me, get checked to donate, you are all [heroes]!\u201d Phillips, 46, wrote via Instagram<\/span><\/a> on Tuesday, July 7, sharing a hospital selfie. \u201cMy wonderful brother [Aron Wilson<\/b>] donated in the kidney exchange! He saved a life, and the life he saved had a special person donate for them, and then a few weeks later! The voucher program found me a perfect match! So close it\u2019s like I got the kidney from one of my parents!\u201d<\/p>\n

Phillips revealed in February that she had been hospitalized<\/span><\/a> after complications from her 2017 kidney transplant. At the time, Phillips was put back on dialysis after one of her kidneys failed. She subsequently searched for a donor to undergo another transplant.<\/p>\n

By early July, Phillips found a match through the UCLA hospital\u2019s kidney exchange program. (In a paired donation, living donors are able to donate their organs to another recipient in exchange for a compatible kidney for their relative.)<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tEven before Bijou Phillips revealed she needed a second kidney transplant, the actress had been open about her health struggles over the years. Phillips, who is the daughter of musicians John Phillips and Genevi\u00e8ve Wa\u00efte, was born with underdeveloped kidneys. She required her first transplant in 2017. \u201cI\u2019m asking as a friend, a sister, an [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cI am so blow[n] away by Dr. Veale<\/b> and the magic he does,\u201d Phillips wrote of her surgeon. \u201cThe kidney exchange, voucher program and his surgical skills!!! He only cut the facia! He didn\u2019t cut the muscles, so I didn\u2019t even really need much pain medication at all, just Tylenol!\u201d<\/p>\n

Phillips revealed that her post-op progress \u201cat five days\u201d is comparable to her four-month recovery following her last procedure<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe technique [my physician] developed is brilliant and he is a lifesaver! Thank you UCLA,\u201d she gushed. \u201cAnd all the amazing [doctors] and coordinators and nurses and everybody there has been so wonderful and amazing.
