King Charles III will use one of his oldest and least-known
\ntitles for the first time next week when he makes his inaugural
\nvisit to the Isle of Man as monarch.<\/p>\n
During the visit on 14 July, The King will appear in his
\nconstitutional role as Lord of Mann, the historic title held by the
\nSovereign as Head of State of the Isle of Man.<\/p>\n
The title dates back centuries and has been used by the reigning
\nBritish monarch since 1765, when the lordship of the self-governing
\nCrown Dependency reverted to the Crown. Although the title is \u201cLord
\nof Mann\u201d, it has traditionally been used by both kings and queens,
\nincluding Queen Elizabeth II.<\/p>\n
The King\u2019s visit will begin with a special sitting of Tynwald,
\nthe Isle of Man\u2019s parliament, in Douglas, where he will address
\nmembers of the legislature.<\/p>\n
He will then attend a garden party at Government House, meeting
\nrepresentatives from charities, community organisations and
\nvoluntary groups from across the island.<\/p>\n
Later in the day, The King will visit the Douglas Bay Horse
\nTramway as it celebrates its 150th anniversary. During the
\nengagement, he will unveil a commemorative plaque before taking a
\nshort journey aboard one of the horse-drawn trams along the
\npromenade.<\/p>\n
Lieutenant Governor Sir John Lorimer said: \u201cThis visit reflects
\nthe enduring relationship between the Crown and the Isle of Man,
\nwhile also providing an opportunity to share with His Majesty the
\npeople, places and traditions that make our Island so unique.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am very much looking forward to welcoming His Majesty and to
\nshowcasing the warmth and spirit for which the Isle of Man is
\nrenowned.\u201d<\/p>\n
Chief Minister Alfred Cannan described the occasion as \u201ca proud
\nmoment\u201d for the island.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs Lord of Mann, His Majesty holds a unique place in the
\nconstitutional life of our Island,\u201d he said. \u201cI know many residents
\nwill welcome the chance to see The King and to join together in
\nmarking this significant moment in our Island\u2019s history.\u201d<\/p>\n
While this will be Charles\u2019s first visit to the Isle of Man
\nsince becoming King, he visited several times as Prince of Wales,
\nmost recently in 2012 during Queen Elizabeth II\u2019s Diamond Jubilee
\ncelebrations.<\/p>\n
The Isle of Man is a self-governing British Crown Dependency and
\nis not part of the United Kingdom. The British monarch serves as
\nits Head of State under the historic title Lord of Mann, reflecting
