BBC Radio 6 Music<\/a>\u00a0has revealed the line-up for its new BBC Sounds extension \u2018Indie Forever\u2019,\u00a0including a new show from\u00a0The Maccabees<\/a>\u2019\u00a0Felix White<\/a>.<\/p>\n The 24-hour stream will be available exclusively on BBC Sounds from\u00a0Wednesday\u00a0July 22, and will be dedicated to indie pop,\u00a0rock\u00a0and classics from the 1980s to the 2010s and beyond.<\/p>\n According to the\u00a0BBC<\/a>, UK artists will make up 70 per cent of the playlist, with the stream set to feature music from the likes of\u00a0The Stone Roses<\/a>,\u00a0Oasis<\/a>,\u00a0Blur<\/a>,\u00a0Pulp<\/a>,\u00a0The Verve<\/a>,\u00a0The Strokes<\/a>, Arctic Monkeys<\/a>,\u00a0The Killers<\/a>,\u00a0Florence + The Machine<\/a>,\u00a0Yeah\u00a0Yeah\u00a0Yeahs<\/a>,\u00a0The xx<\/a>,\u00a0Wolf Alice<\/a>,\u00a0The 1975<\/a>,\u00a0Sam Fender<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Blossoms<\/a>.<\/p>\n The stream will launch with\u00a0The Morning Session with Steve Lamacq & Felix\u00a0White<\/i>,\u00a0which will see the veteran broadcaster and The Maccabees guitarist dive into the moments, movements, artists, scenes,\u00a0genres\u00a0and labels that\u00a0defined\u00a0UK indie history.<\/p>\n The\u00a0programme\u00a0is billed as a homage to Radio 1\u2019s legendary\u00a0Evening Session<\/i>, which was\u00a0closely associated\u00a0with Britpop and \u201990s indie.<\/p>\n \u201cOver my career, I\u2019ve been lucky enough to have followed the journeys of many, now famous or influential indie artists and bands,\u201d Lamacq said. \u201cI\u2019m really looking forward to reliving those memories each weekday morning with Felix on Indie Forever\u2019s The Morning Session and telling the stories that shaped British independent music.\u201d<\/p>\n \u2018Indie Forever\u2019 will also include\u00a0City Soundtracks<\/i>,\u00a0a new collaboration with Music Venue Trust and BBC Introducing. Presented by 6 Music and BBC Introducing\u2019s Emily Pilbeam, the\u00a0programmes\u00a0will be based in different independent venues across the UK, exploring local indie scenes and\u00a0showcasing\u00a0the next generation of artists playing in grassroots venues.<\/p>\n Mark Davyd, CEO and founder of Music Venue Trust, said: \u201c6 Music has always understood that today\u2019s headliners were playing yesterday\u2019s grassroots gig, and that understanding has made it one of the best friends that grassroots music venues have.<\/p>\n \u201cIndie Forever is a joyful tribute to four decades of that music, and City Soundtracks brings it full circle, taking 6 Music and BBC Introducing back into the rooms where it all started. We could not ask for a better partner in telling that story, or in helping write the next chapter of it.\u201d<\/p>\n Elsewhere,\u00a0Beth Ditto<\/a>\u00a0will present\u00a0Indie Forever Disco<\/i>\u00a0on Fridays and Saturdays, bringing listeners two hours of indie dancefloor hits. The\u00a0Gossip<\/a>\u00a0frontwoman\u00a0recently joined the BBC 6 Music weekend line-up as part of a wider schedule shake-up that also saw\u00a0Jarvis Cocker\u2019s Sunday Service<\/i>\u00a0return to the station as Iggy Pop took a break from his show<\/a>.<\/p>\n Classic episodes of Cocker\u2019s 6 Music shows will also be aired on the new stream. His current\u00a0Someday Service<\/i>, which he has presented since April, will be repeated on Saturdays, while archive episodes of his original\u00a0Sunday Service<\/i>\u00a0programme,\u00a0which ran on 6 Music from 2010 to 2017, will air on Sundays from August 2.<\/p>\n The schedule will also include another chance to hear\u00a0The Rise And Fall Of <\/i>The Smiths <\/i><\/a>and\u00a0The Rise\u00a0And\u00a0Fall (And Rise Again) Of\u00a0Oasis<\/i>,\u00a0alongside artist collections dedicated to The Smiths and Oasis.<\/p>\n The Oasis programming will feature highlights from the band\u2019s 1996 Knebworth shows, Liam<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Noel Gallagher<\/a>\u2019s 1997\u00a0appearance\u00a0on\u00a0The Evening Session<\/i>, and Noel\u2019s reflections on the first 10 years of the band, recorded in 2001.<\/p>\n Other archive material will include historic interviews and sessions from Arctic Monkeys, The Strokes and The Smiths. From August, weekend artist collections will also celebrate acts including The Strokes, Yeah\u00a0Yeah\u00a0Yeahs, Wolf Alice,\u00a0The White Stripes<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Biffy Clyro<\/a>.<\/p>\n Samantha Moy, Head of BBC Radio 6 Music, said: \u201c6 Music Indie Forever will tell the stories and play the songs that have soundtracked the UK\u2019s thriving independent music scene through 40 years of song, performance and archive, enriched by the diverse and deep range of artists and catalogue that is synonymous with 6 Music.<\/p>\n \u201cIf you want a version of 6 Music that\u2019s pure, unadulterated indie \u2013 then this 24hr stream is for you.\u201d<\/p>\n The launch follows a busy year for 6 Music.\u00a0The station staged its 2026 festival in Manchester earlier this year<\/a>, where\u00a0Bloc Party debuted three new songs during their headline set at Victoria Warehouse<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<\/blockquote>\n
