\u201cSince 6, 8 years old. So that’s 57 years. I’m 65 now. And so that’s 57 years I’ve been going there, since I was a little girl,” said Parson.<\/p>\n
Since the closure, it’s sat empty. Ikenna Warner says it’s a noticeable void on busy Fulton Street.<\/p>\n
\u201cPut something else here, like a perfume store, food court, anything else so it don\u2019t look dead like this. It\u2019s sad that it\u2019s gone now, but something better’s going to come,” said Warner.<\/p>\n
Joshua Strauss, president of Dreamscape Retail and Entertainment, says construction is underway on BKX, a six-story retail and entertainment complex set to replace the Macy’s.<\/p>\n
“It will be full of fun, immersive experiences, food and beverage, retail, wellness, all under one roof, which is something New York hasn’t seen in a very long time,” said Strauss.<\/p>\n
Many people tell News 12 the Macy’s was a community staple. Strauss says the project will deliver to the community.<\/p>\n
\u201cPeople will come from all over the world to come see what we’re putting on here,” said Strauss.<\/p>\n
Dreamscape Retail says more details on tenants and experiences are coming soon. The project is expected to open in late 2027 into 2028.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
