This highlighted Lebanon in particular and still didn\u2019t cover the flurry of releases there, but it covered other places, too. It\u2019s all recommended, so here\u2019s the full playback and track listing with links.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/mayssajallad.bandcamp.com\/track\/taamir-bahriyyeh\">opening track<\/a> I could listen on repeat, truly. Other highlights below. It\u2019s funny putting together mixes like this. The other two are based on some of the earliest known recordings of Ukrainian folk music from the early 20th century, captured on wax phonograph cylinders during ethnographic expeditions by Lesya Ukra\u00efnka, Filaret Kolessa and Klyment Kvitka.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe style=\"border: 0; width: 400px; height: 241px;\" src=\"https:\/\/bandcamp.com\/EmbeddedPlayer\/album=3538988923\/size=large\/bgcol=ffffff\/linkcol=0687f5\/artwork=small\/transparent=true\/\" seamless=\"\"><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/kyivite.bandcamp.com\/album\/broadcast-09-01-26\">broadcast 09\/01\/26 by ky\u00efvite<\/a><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I appreciate this one, in particular \u2014 archival recordings of the Transcarpathian Folk Choir (1960s), under the original direction of Mykhailo Krechko.\u2028<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cLonging for Rain\u201d is such a heavy, deeply felt track by Temp-Illusion.<\/p>\n<p><iframe style=\"border: 0; width: 100%; height: 120px;\" src=\"https:\/\/bandcamp.com\/EmbeddedPlayer\/track=1093293249\/size=large\/bgcol=ffffff\/linkcol=0687f5\/tracklist=false\/artwork=small\/transparent=true\/\" seamless=\"\"><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/temp-illusion.bandcamp.com\/track\/longing-for-rain\">Longing For Rain by Temp-Illusion<\/a><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Sawt El Doumouh<\/em> by Sandy Chamoun et al. has rightfully earned early mention among top releases of the year. From its album notes \u2014 \u201cflickers of light from sadness\u201d:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Influences from the Arabic tradition of Tarab \u2013 one of the first styles Chamoun learnt to sing \u2013 and polyphonic Cantu are reinterpreted and reimagined through her voice and electronics, synths from her SANAM and Ghadr bandmate Anthony Sahyoun, and live percussion from Ali Hout.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe style=\"border: 0; width: 400px; height: 373px;\" src=\"https:\/\/bandcamp.com\/EmbeddedPlayer\/album=502374409\/size=large\/bgcol=ffffff\/linkcol=0687f5\/artwork=small\/transparent=true\/\" seamless=\"\"><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/sandychamoun.bandcamp.com\/album\/sawt-el-doumouh\">Sawt El Doumouh by Sandy Chamoun<\/a><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gag Reflex is an immediate favorite of mine. You know, there are even thematic connections in this playlist that came out, unintended. It\u2019s also a music-adjacent scheme that pursues restlessness, implied unease and surplus intentions that come out in communal spaces, when it\u2019s a little too loud &amp; a little too late.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Huggen Luft is another essential release, with music by Dmytro Filatov and lyrics &amp; vocals by Sofiia Artiukhina, touring now through Ukraine underneath ballistic missile fire. Just trust me. In addition to Sofiia\u2019s aching lyrics atop Dima\u2019s nimble rhythms, you get the soaring trumpet solo of Pavlo Treba.  <\/p>\n<p><iframe style=\"border: 0; width: 400px; height: 406px;\"
