The King helped staff paint the snails with \u201csnail polish\u201d so they could be easily tracked in the wild.<\/p>\n

\u201cI shall do it very slowly,\u201d he joked, before placing a small dot on the top of the shell. \u201cDoes it come off eventually?\u201d he asked.<\/p>\n

The monarch was eventually rejoined by his wife, who proudly told him: \u201cI\u2019ve just named a queen bee \u2018Camilla\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n

While the tour was the King\u2019s first as ZSL\u2019s patron, he originally visited the zoo as a one-year-old<\/a> to see Brumas, a newborn polar bear cub.<\/p>\n

Since 1828, when the world\u2019s first scientific zoo was founded in Regent\u2019s Park, every monarch has been patron of the ZSL.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
