The Royals seem to be standing firm.<\/p>\n “The Royals, according to people briefed on their plans, are telling clubs they will listen on Lugo and Wacha, but their asks will be massive,” The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal wrote on Thursday<\/a>.<\/p>\n MORE:\u00a0<\/strong>Blue Jays did the right thing with Dylan Cease<\/a><\/p>\n The Royals might not compete this year, but they’ll still have the righties around for the future, and they don’t plan to all of a sudden turn into a rebuilding ballclub.<\/p>\n Advertisement<\/p>\n “A year ago, the Royals knew Carter Jensen<\/a> was nearly ready for the majors, making (Freddy) Fermin expendable,” Rosenthal writes. “They have no such potential replacements for Lugo and Wacha. And with shortstop Bobby Witt Jr.<\/a> and third baseman Maikel Garcia<\/a> signed long-term, they do not plan to rebuild.”<\/p>\n Lugo has struggled, so the Royals are better off hoping for a bounceback from him anyway.<\/p>\n Wacha is the guy who could bring back great pieces.
