She was 87.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"primary-cli cli cli-text \">\n<p>Funk died Wednesday at her apartment in an assisted living facility in the Dallas and Fort Worth suburb of Grapevine, Texas, Grapevine City Councilwoman Duff O\u2019Dell said Thursday. O\u2019Dell, who described herself as Funk\u2019s caregiver, said she was by Funk\u2019s side. Funk had fallen a couple of times recently and had an infection in her leg.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"primary-cli cli cli-text \">\n<p>\u201cIt took its toll,\u201d O\u2019Dell said in a phone interview.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"primary-cli cli cli-text \">\n<p>Funk was one of 13 female pilots who went through the same tests as NASA\u2019s all-male astronaut corps in the early 1960s but never made it into space with that agency. No you can\u2019t do that,\u2019 \u201d O\u2019Dell said. \u201cAnd she never got mad about it.
