Mental Cruelty<\/strong> have released their latest single, \u201cThe Serpent Of Midgard,\u201d<\/strong> continuing the German blackened deathcore<\/strong> band\u2019s deep dive into Norse mythology<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The track arrives with a new music video directed by Rob Reva<\/strong> and serves as a follow-up to last year\u2019s \u201cHelheim,\u201d<\/strong> which saw the band expanding their sonic palette with folk instrumentation and mythological storytelling.<\/p>\n Discussing the inspiration behind the new song, the band shared:<\/p>\n \u201cOn last year\u2019s \u2018Helheim,\u2019 we expanded our instruments beyond typical deathcore fare (guitar, bass, drums and, of course, monstrous vocals) to include folk music\u2019s talharpa, aiding in the telling of Norse mythology\u2019s Hel. It\u2019s only appropriate we continue darkening our sound with more black metal and melodeath inspirations as we tell the story of her brother, J\u00f6rmungandr, the titular \u2018Serpent of Midgard,\u2019 in his epic ocean battle with his uncle Thor. For those unfamiliar with the folklore, it ends in both of their demises: talk about family issues!\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cMusically, we wanted to capture the intensity of the conflict, with our guitarist Nahuel Lozano\u2019s working title of \u2018Gojibehe\u2019 summing up key influences. You can guess those, but we\u2019ll spell out the inspiration behind the chunky mid-section and the closest thing we get to a full-on breakdown here: our brothers Signs of the Swarm and the insane tones on their latest album!\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cBut while we learned from bands we look up to and friends alike musically, sadly, we never learn from ourselves and once again shot the music video in subzero temperatures. The results are worth it\u2014you can see for yourself\u2014but damn, that was cold.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Musically, \u201cThe Serpent Of Midgard\u201d<\/strong> further expands on the band\u2019s blend of deathcore<\/strong>, black metal<\/strong>, melodic death metal<\/strong>, and atmospheric folk influences while continuing the mythological themes that have become a defining element of their recent material.<\/p>\n In addition to the new single, Mental Cruelty<\/strong> have announced their first-ever European and UK headlining tour<\/strong>, which will take place later this year.
